Position Summary

Support the APP manager with APP team supervisory and administrative needs such as staff and fellow education, scheduling, credentialing, orientation, tracking licensure/CME’s, etc. Front line representative and will focus on the day-to-day flow of the inpatient operations and keep the manager informed of inpatient workflows, challenges. Will identify opportunities for improvement and increase productivity. Assist in recruitment/training/onboarding/continuing education. Supervision of multiple APPs.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Coordinates day to day clinical practice within the Advanced Practice Provider team.

  • Monitors advance practice practitioner performance, situations, and indicators to identify problems and opportunities to improve the level of patient care provided.
  • Attends a variety of clinical team meetings to ensure that the plan of care and communication is accomplished accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Reports to Advanced Practice Provider manager and functions as a resource for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants nurses, and administrative team. Works to resolve immediate clinical operational concerns/errors.
  • Responsible for coordinating monthly schedules and advanced practice practitioner team assignments in collaboration with the management team. 

Builds an effective work unit through evaluating staff and providing input to APP Manager.

  • Collaboration with leadership to support department.
  • Participates in the credentialing, orientation, education, training, and competency development of new team members in collaboration with the physician and management led teams.
  • Identifies and recommends staffing levels necessary to effectively manage the work of the program.
  • In collaboration with management team, develops, updates, and maintains advance practice provider educational materials, policy, and procedures. 
  • Assists with annual evaluations of team members that work directly with lead and assists with evaluations and annual salary planning of team members with direct assistance from advanced practice manager.

Supports performance improvement and quality initiatives within the department.

  • Attends departmental quality committees and shares information with team members to ensure high quality care standards are achieved.
  • Sets the advanced practice provider priorities in alignment with those of both the university and hospital. 
  • Networks and build relationships with national, state, and local provider organizations and universities.
  • Acts as liaison with institutional marketing departments to assist with continued education in local markets to support referral patterns. 

Manages the care of patients.

  • Demonstrates the ability to review complex history and medical records of patients to formulate a summary to the attending physician.
  • Communicates recommended treatment plans and pertinent history to initiate plan of care across the continuum.
  • Stays current with new regulatory policies and procedures according to program standards.
  • Seeks and maintains competency for other technical skills and procedures according to the direction of the collaborative arrangement and departmental objectives. 
  • Serves as a health care resource to the inpatient and outpatient nursing service by being available for assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, and implementation of treatment plans. 
  • Initiates and coordinates Advanced Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant research efforts. 

Promotes continuous learning and Advanced Practice Provider Development.

  • Provides continued education/ updates about practice changes as handed down by governing bodies.
  • Builds a system approach to ensure that employees are properly supported in their development, and in continued education/ regulatory requirements. Supports professional practice guidelines of certifying body, State Board credentialing requirements, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and WashU School of Medicine, and other certifying bodies.  
  • Recognizes and rewards significant work results of the team.

Salary Range

$109,800.00 - $197,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
