Super Circle Lead Financial Accounting (Head of Financial Accounting Operations)

We are looking for an experienced, visionary, hands-on, people-oriented lead to drive the execution, compliance and continuous improvements of the global financial accounting services in ING. You will steer a large cross-border team and collaborate with various key stakeholders in the CFO organisation business stakeholders in Wholesale Banking and Group Treasury and the internal and external auditors of the Bank.

You are responsible for steering an organization scalable and compliant financial account services to the CFOs in the Bank. This includes developing a vision and strategies to further scale, digitalize, and strengthen efficiency and quality of your services according to business partner expectations.

You will be directly reporting into the Bank’s COO for Finance.

Depending your current location, the location of this role will be in Amsterdam or ING Hubs Philippines.  

Your role and work environment

COO Finance (COOF) is an independent unit reporting to ING’s COO, with a permanent seat in the Management team of CFO. It is accountable for executing the CFO and COO strategy to evolve towards one global digital bank. The COOF mission is to enable excellence in Finance with real time business insights, derived from state of the art technologies, optimal use of data and highly effective operations.

As Super Circle Lead Financial Accounting you will be working with the leadership team of COO Finance on large end-to-end transformation initiatives with the aim to establish robust technology solutions and corresponding processes to cater for timely, accurate, complete and auditable (accounted) data for various external and internal (reporting) purposes.

Your teams

You will lead a number of circle leads and their teams to deliver and continuously improve the centralized financial accounting operations and services. You are responsible for setting the long-term strategy and leading the Super Circle Financial Accounting organisation in achieving its (long term) objectives. Responsible for the execution of all activities of this organisation in Netherlands and ING Hubs Philippines, including risk & control activities to remain in control of risks and keeping the bank safe.

The Circles in scope of the Super Circle Financial Accounting are:

  • FMGT Accounting Services: maintaining timely, accurate and compliant financial accounts for the Financial Markets and Group Treasury products.
  • Lending & TS Accounting Services: maintaining timely, accurate and compliant financial accounts for the Wholesale Bank Lending and Transaction Services products.
  • Other Product Accounting Services: maintaining timely, accurate and compliant financial accounts for the centralized processing and control of other banking products and special purpose entities.
  • Cost & General Accounting Services: maintaining timely, accurate and compliant financial accounts for the cost and other non-product ledgers.
  • Group & FA Consolidation Services: maintaining timely, accurate and compliant financial accounts for the Group entities and FA consolidation activities (eg Intercompany Reconciliation).

Your key responsibilities

As Super Circle Lead you take responsibility for:

  • Co-creating the strategy of COO Finance based on the COO and business strategies.
  • Shape and lead the execution of the strategy of your area of responsibility based on the COO Finance strategy.
  • Developing a multiyear vision providing scalable, digital, and compliant Financial Accounting services.
  • Lead transformation initiatives, including implementing AI strategies in your Super Circle, to evolve business processes.
  • Deliver the Financial accounting services according to agreed service levels, and ensuring safe, reliable and compliant processes and services.
  • Continuously working on ways to innovate and improve your products and services
  • People leadership and driving people development, employee engagement and diversity in your organisation.
  • Actively engaging and aligning strategies, demand and priorities with (senior) stakeholders in Finance, risk and business organisations.

Furthermore, you have:

  • Master Degree (University / Postgraduate) in Accounting or Controlling
  • 10+ years of experience in management and leadership
  • 10-15 years of experience in Finance
  • Deep knowledge in financial accounting and financial control practices
  • Affinity with operational management
  • Sourcing experience and leading cross border teams
  • Strategic Planning
  • Managing (complex) change

  • Building effective teams and drive engagement
