The Security & Emergency Management Intern supports security operations by assisting with the management and maintenance of physical security systems. This role offers hands-on experience with security related technology, security assessments, incident investigations, threat assessments and emergency management. The intern will collaborate with the security team to identify vulnerabilities, implement corrective measures, and contribute to ongoing safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing, updating and creating Security Standing Orders and training programs to enhance the security program.
  • Participate in security assessments and document findings related to facility safety and asset protection.
  • Support investigations of physical security incidents and assist in preparing incident reports.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security policies and protocols to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Provide recommendations for improving physical security infrastructure, such as lighting, fencing, and patrols.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify vulnerabilities and ensure the functionality of security equipment.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency response agencies during and after security incidents.
  • Assist in training staff members on emergency response protocols and participate in tabletop exercises as needed.
  • Contribute to awareness and education programs for various audiences concerning physical security matters.
  • Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned by the security management team.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a university or technical program in Security Administration, Police Foundations, Protection, Security & Investigation, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Valid security license and prescribed training according to the region of employment (preferred).
  • Valid First Aid and CPR training (preferred).
  • Professional references confirmed.

Skills and Abilities

  • Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Knowledge of the Incident Command System.
  • Excellent organizational and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with personnel of all levels.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.

Work Environment

  • Scheduled work hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (other hours as required).
  • On-site work at various locations within Toronto.
  • Opportunity to participate in intern events, training sessions, and facility tours.

The expected salary range for this position is $44,850.00 - $56,550.00 per year, prorated based on the term of the contract.
