Job Summary
The Chan Centre for the Performing is seeking enthusiastic and creative Summer Program Leaders to deliver Summer camps across 6 weeks: Harmony Hackers: The Science of Music (Ages 8-12); Press Start: Videogame Music & Game Development (Ages 7-11); Cue the Music: Film Music & Stop Motion Animation (Ages 8-12); Melody Makers (Ages 5-7); Carnival of the Animals (Ages 5-7); Cue the Music Jr.: Film Music & Stop Motion Animation (Ages 6-8). Leaders will be provided with pre-developed lesson plans, teaching materials, and daily schedules to implement. 
 

Responsibilities

The Summer Program Leader will be responsible for:

  • Delivering STEM, music, and digital media curriculums in collaboration with co-leaders and volunteer camp assistants

  • Providing safe, inclusive, and enriching camp experiences for groups of up to 20 children aged 5-12

  • Ensuring all camp policies and procedures are followed

  • Managing camp supplies and equipment

  • Performing set-up and clean-up duties

  • Completing other tasks and duties as required to ensure the camps run smoothly

Availability & Commitment

Leaders must be available in-person at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts from June 15 – August 14, 2026, including:

 

  • Mandatory Training: *exact date and time TBC

    • Week of June 15: 4 hours of mandatory camp procedures training & team building

    • Week of June 22: 4-6 hours of program-specific skills training

    • June 29: 1 hour pre-camp leaders meeting (virtual via Zoom)

    • Week of August 17: 1 hour post-camp wrap-up & reflection meeting (virtual via Zoom)

    • Week 1: July 6 – 10, 8:30am-4:30pm – Cue the Music Jr.

    • Week 2: July 13 – 17, 8:30am-4:30pm – Press Start

    • Week 3: July 20 – 24, 8:30am-4:30pm – Harmony Hackers

    • Week 4: July 27 – 30, 8:30am-4:30pm – Cue the Music

    • Week 5: August 4 – 7, 8:30am-4:30pm – Melody Makers & Carnival of the Animals

    • Week 6: August 10 – 14, 8:30am-4:30pm – Cue the Music Jr.

 

Full-time Hours: 35-40 hours per week during 6 weeks of camp

 

Hourly Rate: $22-25 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and past experience.


Minimum Qualifications

- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in STEM education and/or music education

  • 2+ years of prior teaching or coaching experience with children aged 5-12 in group settings

  • Ongoing personal and/or professional practice in performing arts, film, or computer programming

  • Genuine love for and interest in music, video games, STEM, and/or animation

  • At least 3 of the following:

    • Familiarity with GarageBand / comparable DAW

    • Familiarity with Scratch / comparable icon-based coding language

    • Familiarity with stop-motion animation

    • Experience playing or teaching ukulele / guitar

    • Experience with music composition

    • Experience with computer programming and/or other STEM skills

Prerequisites – Must be obtained prior to commencing work

  • Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Current Standard First Aid Certification with CPR-C + AED
