Are you ready to gain hands-on experience with an industry-leading real estate company? Essex Property Trust, an S&P 500 real estate investment trust (REIT), invites highly motivated college students to join our 8-week, paid summer internship program in Marketing & Communications. This is your chance to work on meaningful projects that impact real-world business decisions while developing valuable skills in the dynamic world of real estate.
Essex is looking to bring on two interns, each with a distinct area of focus as outlined below. This is a full-time internship, Monday through Friday, with a pay rate of $26.00 per hour.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As an intern with Marketing & Communications, you’ll collaborate with multiple departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of how marketing functions within a top-tier real estate company.
The Communications/Community Marketing Intern will have the opportunity to:
- Optimize Online Presence – Support Google Business Profile enhancements, ensuring listings are accurate, complete, and aligned with brand standards.
- Support Social Media Engagement – Assist with copywriting and content coordination to highlight our communities and resident experience.
- Enhance Marketing Collateral – Contribute to property map and community marketing projects, ensuring our marketing materials are visually appealing and up to date.
The Digital Marketing/Multimedia Intern will have the opportunity to:
- Evaluate Digital Performance – Audit advertising and lead generation efforts to identify opportunities for improved reach and engagement.
- Enhance Website Experience - Update website content to enhance user experience and support SEO efforts.
- Engage in Multimedia Production – Get hands-on experience with video, photography, and virtual tour projects to showcase our properties in the best light.
Each internship position may provide additional support on various initiatives as they arise, gaining a well-rounded understanding of real estate marketing.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Education – You must be enrolled in a four-year accredited undergraduate program, majoring in Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Rising juniors (Class of 2028) and seniors (Class of 2027) are encouraged to apply.
- Skills & Attributes – Strong communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills are a must! You should be detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Work Environment – This is a hybrid role, requiring you to be in our Irvine office four days a week (Monday – Thursday).

New hires generally start between $20.67 - $23.56 per hour. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.
