The Science Integration team seeks a Robotics Intern to support payload integration and testing for a mobile robotics deployment at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. This position is only offered in person and onsite.

This is a temporary role not to exceed 14 weeks.

Responsibilities:

• The intern would perform calibration and testing of various sensor payloads to be integrated on a mobile robotics platform, including stereo cameras, GPS, IMU, and environmental sensors
• Combine data from various sensor streams to derive scientific insights about terrain and surroundings
• Perform small-scale field tests in and around JSC
• Develop interfaces and/or visualizations to communicate real-time insights to operators​

Requisition Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited university.
• Completed at least 45 credit hours.
• Minimum of 2.8 GPA.

• BS/MS/PhD student in an engineering field
• Comfortable with assembly and testing of small electronic components

Requisition Preferences:

• Experience with robotics, rovers, instrument sensors
• Experience with image analysis and/or photogrammetry
• Experience with CAD analysis
• Familiarity with data fusion techniques

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
