Your Next Opportunity

We are seeking a Substation Protection & Control Design Engineer to join our world‑class engineering team. In this role, you’ll work on new substation designs and apply your deep technical expertise to develop detailed protection and control drawings—including metering and relaying single lines, three‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, RTU diagrams, and SCADA interfaces.

This is an opportunity to contribute to high‑impact utility and transmission projects while collaborating with some of the most talented engineers in the industry.

What You’ll Do

  • Apply knowledge of substation protection and control schemes—overcurrent, distance, differential, breaker failure, voltage/frequency, transformer, reclosing, communication‑based protection, synchronization, and more.

  • Develop protection and control one‑line diagrams and relaying panel bills of materials with minimal supervision.

  • Create and manage drawings including:

    • Metering and relaying single lines

    • AC/DC schematics

    • Wiring diagrams

    • Panel elevations and layouts

    • Cable schedules

    • Point‑to‑point wiring

    • Panel fabrication details

    • RTU and communications wiring

    • Breaker and LTC control schematics

    • SCADA control/alarm interfaces

    • Trip circuit supervision

    • Scheme 1 / Scheme 2 separation

  • Support projects involving transmission line panel replacements, bus reconfigurations, and sectionalizing stations.

  • Work on retrofit projects, including the conversion of electromechanical relays to microprocessor‑based systems.

  • Perform CAD design and drafting using AutoCAD or MicroStation.

  • Review vendor equipment drawings, design specs, and control cabinet layouts.

  • Support development of protection and control panel bill of materials.

  • Apply knowledge of various transmission bus arrangements.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • Experience with design development stages (30%, 60%, 90%, as‑builts) and associated deliverables.

  • Strong understanding of industry standards, symbols, and construction notes.

  • Experience reviewing manufacturer drawings (transformers, breakers, junction boxes, etc.).

  • Hands‑on expertise developing complete P&C drawing packages (single lines, three‑lines, schematics, wiring, RTU diagrams, communication diagrams).

  • Experience in retrofit and modernization projects, including relay upgrades.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation.

  • Familiarity with transmission‑level substation configurations.

What You Bring to Us

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • 6+ years of experience in protection and control design for transmission, distribution, substation, or industrial power systems.

Travel

  • Up to 25%

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with periods of sitting, walking, typing, bending, and carrying.

  • Occasional exposure to jobsite conditions and moderate noise levels.

  • ADA‑compliant environment with reasonable accommodations available.

  • Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
