The OMERS Strategy team supports the Executive Leadership Team and the OMERS AC Board in shaping and executing the organization’s long-term strategy. Key areas of focus include:

  • Long-term strategy (~5 years) development and refinement through an annual Board Strategic Planning process

  • Completion of Asset Liability Studies (~3 years), to recommend the long-term asset mix for the organization

  • Supporting the broader organization on a variety of strategic topics, such as development of overall investment strategy or specific Business Unit strategies

Reporting to the VP, Strategy & Asset Liability Management, the Student Associate will play a key role in preparing and coordinating analyses to inform strategic decisions across a broad set of focus areas, including investments, pensions and other corporate functions.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with individuals who have experience from leading pension and management consulting firms. The student will also gain exposure to one of the ten largest Canadian pension funds and learn about the globally recognized Canadian pension investment model.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on strategic topics, analyzing and interpreting information to generate insights that support recommendations

  • Gather competitive intelligence and/or develop peer case studies on relevant strategy topics

  • Support other members of the strategy team in preparing materials for communicating the OMERS Strategy, Asset Liability Study, and other strategic projects

  • Work closely with internal teams to syndicate/validate recommendations

  • Support additional projects as required
