Hiring Unit:
Teaching & Learning (Nahum Gelber Law Library)

Hour of work : 30 hours

Duration : May 11st – August 30th, 2026

Position Summary:

The student will participate in a major collection project at the Nahum Gelber Law Library: the weeding and consolidation of the journal collection. The project will involve placing items identified for weeding on a cart for verification and shifting the journals so that they occupy less space in the basement. This will create more space for other collections that may be moved there. The project will also involve shifting items for the 5th floor of the Library to the storage area.

Tasks:

  • Shift journals and ensure that they are in order.

  • Place journals identified for weeding on a cart for verification.

  • Move items from the 5th floor to storage and ensure that they are in order.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to clearly transmit and receive information. 

  • Demonstrated ability to cope with physical requirements: moving and lifting weights of up to 20kgs, handling dusty library materials, shelving and shifting books, bending, working while standing. 

  • English spoken read and written and French spoken and read. 

  • McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) on a scale of 0-4 Other languages an asset.
