Opportunity

AIMCo’s Internal Audit team is seeking a motivated student to join the team. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in audit, risk management, and data analytics within one of Canada’s largest and most diversified investment managers. As a student, you will support audit planning, execution, and reporting, while collaborating with experienced professionals and contributing to process improvements that impact the financial security of Albertans.

The primary role of the Internal Audit Function (“Internal Audit”) is to support the Board and Executive Management in enhancing value through risk-based assurance. Internal Audit reports directly to the Audit Committee and administratively to the CEO. Activities are conducted in accordance with professional standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist Portfolio Leaders in planning, executing, and documenting internal audits

  • Perform detailed testing and analysis of controls and processes

  • Prepare and maintain audit workpapers, draft findings, and support audit reports and presentations

  • Participate in risk assessment discussions and evaluate internal controls

  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to achieve audit objectives

  • Contribute to the refinement of audit methodologies and tools

  • Provide support on ad hoc requests as required

Our Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field

  • Preference for candidates with coursework in auditing, risk management, IT audit, or data analytics

  • Interest in the pension asset management sector or financial services is considered an asset

  • Basic understanding of internal audit principles and risk assessment frameworks

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with data analysis tools (Excel functions, pivot tables)

  • Knowledge of IIA Standards, IT controls, cybersecurity, or data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) is an asset

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently and in teams, and effective time management

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others.

You’ll gain an understanding of audit methodologies and best practices in a leading investment organization and have the ability to contribute to meaningful work projects alongside passionate professionals.
