Job Description:

The Student Financial Aid Specialist 2 provides counseling and administrative assistance in the Verification/Certification/Awarding (VCA) areas in Student Financial Aid (SFA) for undergraduates, graduate and professional students within the Office of Strategic Enrollment Management (OSEM).

Reviews and processes student financial information related to verification and awarding of financial aid in a timely and accurate manner ensuring full compliance with all applicable statutes, rules and regulations at the federal, state and institutional levels. Verifies eligibility of aid and awards and revises financial aid packages. Performs professional judgment and approves or denies appeals. Provides information and administrative support to staff in SFA, Colleges/Departments and at regional campuses. Assists with the development of policies and procedures. Maintains statistics. Researches and resolves problems. Serves on committees. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.


Detail Oriented/Work Quality: Performs duties with a high level of attention to detail to minimize errors and consistently complete work according to departmental procedures and standards. Effectively prioritizes and manages a wide range of activities in daily work.

Problem Solving/Critical Thinking: Applies problem solving and critical thinking skills to address problems and utilizes creativity and available resources to find solutions. Analyzes problems appropriately and applies an understanding of potential short and long term effects.

Culture Contributor: Makes a positive contribution to the departmental, regional, and organizational culture. Models OSEM shared values. Is a collaborative teammate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education/experience required.

  • 2 years of relevant experience required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least 2-4 years of work experience in a financial aid office in higher education.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and, in a team-oriented environment.

  • Possess strong attention to detail, analytical, and organizational skills

  • Ability to follow policies and procedures.

  • Ability to learn and navigate multiple databases required for processing financial aid.

  • Ability to perform standard business math, such as calculate rations and percentages, and track financial data.

  • Willingness to take on responsibilities as needed.

Additional Information:

The hourly rate for this position is $21.26/hour.
