What We Want

The Student Development Specialist III is responsible for the Student Organization Accountability process, assists with investigations of student behavior and other office initiatives, services, and projects. Tasks include understanding the student conduct code, student organization manual and rules; serving as an investigator; assisting with office assessment; assisting with office presentations and trainings; and the creation, development, and implementation of educational workshops and sanctions for student organizations. This position will also participate as a member of the Department of Student Community Standards task forces and committees as assigned.

Responsibilities

Organization Conduct Administration

  • Facilitate the resolution of organizational conduct cases and other office initiatives, services and projects. Tasks include reviewing reports for potential violations of the Student Conduct Code and Organizational Conduct Code, meeting with students, witnesses, advisors, and other supporters to resolve cases, and assigning appropriate educational sanctions. Serve as panel chair or student conduct administrator as needed.

Student Conduct Investigations

  • Develop investigation plans for each assigned investigation & collaborate with investigation partners while conducting the investigation assigned in a timely manner. Coordinate consultation efforts by contacting involved parties as appropriate, provide information regarding the investigation process, and conduct interviews. Gather and secure relevant information through interviews with involved parties and witnesses, as well as other pertinent documentation. Create and maintain thorough records and notes of the investigation process. Provide detailed and unbiased reports of the findings of the investigation to the Director of Student Community Standards or designee in a timely manner. Additionally, assist with the retention of investigation reports.

Liaising and Outreach

  • Maintains working relationships with office and department stakeholders. Serves as an office/department liaison for Student Community Standards. This includes, but is not limited to, the Department of Student Life, University Police Department, Residence Life, Student Activities, and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Serves as a resource to the University community. This includes providing consultation to university departments, University faculty and staff members, and student organizations relating to student conduct.

Knowledge, Training & workshops

  • Develops personal content knowledge. Stays current on trends in student conduct and new legislation, state laws, federal requirements, and national standards relating to student conduct. Works with the supervisor to create and maintain a professional development plan, which may include utilizing campus trainings and/or attending professional conferences directly affiliated with job responsibilities. Develops and facilitates trainings and workshops for the University community. Provides ongoing training relating to student conduct to staff, faculty, and students in alignment with the Student Community Standards mission. This may include oversight of various workshops implemented by Student Community Standards.

University/Division/Department Duties

  • Serves as a representative on Department, Division, and University committees and task forces, at events, and to department stakeholders as assigned. Attends and actively engages in Department and Division meetings, trainings, and functions. Runs errands for the office including purchasing and transporting office and program supplies from off-campus vendors. Will be required to drive a university or other motor vehicle to perform this duty.

Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area, with two years of experience in Student Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.

  • One or more years of experience working in Student Conduct.

  • Attention to detail, confidentiality, dependability.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to follow-through with administrative tasks in a timely manner.

  • Ability to work with individuals.
