The Investment Data Operations Intern will support the Capital Markets Finance team in maintaining high‑quality investment data used across OMERS systems. This role provides hands‑on exposure to investment data workflows, data quality processes, analytics, and operational controls that ensure accurate and timely data delivery.

The intern will gain experience with investment products, data management concepts, and the end‑to‑end data lifecycle while collaborating with partners across Finance Data and Capital Markets. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in data, finance, investment operations, or business analytics.

Responsibilities

As an intern, you will contribute to day‑to‑day data operations and assist team members with analysis and project support:

- Data Operations & Analysis

  • Assist with daily data management activities to help ensure accuracy and completeness of investment data.

  • Support troubleshooting and investigating data issues across internal systems and external vendors.

  • Help perform basic data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks.

  • Learn and assist with security pricing/valuation reviews for public and private investments.

- Documentation & Process Support

  • Contribute to documenting workflows, operational procedures, and process improvements.

  • Support metadata cataloguing and maintenance of internal data documentation.

  • Assist with testing activities related to system enhancements, upgrades, and data migrations.

- Business & Systems Exposure

  • Develop an understanding of the end‑to‑end investment data lifecycle (data sourcing, integration, transformation, reporting).

  • Gain familiarity with investment systems such as CRD, Calypso, and Eagle Pace (training provided).

  • Support team initiatives and cross‑functional projects as assigned.

- Collaboration

  • Work closely with team members and stakeholders across Investment Teams, Risk, and Performance.

  • Participate in team meetings, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and ongoing data initiatives.

Qualifications

- Education

  • Currently in 3rd or 4th year of a university program in Commerce, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.

- Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Comfortable working with data in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).

  • Exposure to data querying and analysis

  • Working knowledge of programing languages (SQL, Python) and reporting tools (Power BI)

- Knowledge & Interest

  • Interest in financial markets, investment products, or data analytics.

  • Basic knowledge of investment concepts is helpful, but training will be provided.

- Soft Skills

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with diverse teams.

  • Detail‑oriented with a proactive and curious mindset.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast‑paced environment.

The expected salary range for this position is $44,850.00 - $56,550.00 per year, prorated based on the term of the contract.
