We are seeking a passionate and self-motivated individual to provide independent advocacy support, advice and services to students across the University. 

Annual base salary from $111,643 - $121,045 (HEW Level 7), plus 17% superannuation
Appointment type: Full time, fixed term contract until 31st January 2027.
Onsite role, based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal campus, North Ryde

About the role 

Macquarie University is seeking an experienced and passionate individual to join the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Dean of Students) portfolio as Student Advocate. This is a high-impact role at the forefront of one of the most important agendas in Australian higher education — creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment for all students.

This is a campus-based (on-site), student-facing role that offers the chance to make a real and meaningful impact on the University community. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide students with expert advice and information on university policy and procedures and external regulatory frameworks.  

  • Support the development and implementation of strategies, projects and initiatives aimed at improving the delivery of student advocacy services that enhance student experience 

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations and efficient reporting and issues resolution. 

  • Facilitate the delivery and continuous improvement of the University’s support for students at risk program to create an optimal student support framework including, but not limited to a student welcome calling campaign, students on academic progression, and students on a leave of absence, and to support international students experiencing financial hardship. 

  • Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations 

  • Perform any other duties as required and appropriate for this classification 

 

About you 

You’ll be a self-starting individual with excellent work organisation and time management skills and ability to remain resilient when under pressure. You will have expert planning, design and content development capabilities, able to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels. You will enjoy working in a dynamic environment, applying a methodical and consultative approach in your work, and be motivated to deliver work outputs that are of a consistent high quality.

  • Degree or equivalent experience focused on public policy, social work, law or related discipline.  

  • Knowledge of the Australian higher education system and an understanding of student support services. 

  • Knowledge of the principles of Privacy, Procedural Fairness and the University's student policies and procedures. 

  • Knowledge of continual improvement and service transformation 

  • Experience managing, analysing and reporting on data and complex student cases 

  • Ability to build and manage partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders 

  • Experience working with a diverse range of people and providing independent support and advice 

  • Experience working in a culturally and linguistically diverse environment.
