Job Summary

Responsible for effecting complex and structured transactions related to capital and derivative markets and risk management of a broad spectrum of assets including structured credit, interest rate products and other asset classes. The role also encompasses market making inflation swaps traded in the South Africa Market. Expected to have robust dialogue with the dealer community, leveraging market colour, in-house research and liquidity.
Suited to a candidate with Honours /master’s degree in business, Economics, Finance or Quantitative field with 3-6 years’ experience in Trading, Structuring, Quantitative analysis or Markets Sales. Strong analytical ability or technical skills in analysing financial markets including deep understanding of discounting and credit pricing/modeling. Understanding and comfort with optionality and second order risks an advantage.

Job Description

Provide technical modelling and market colour to the broader firm around new initiatives and strategies on the desk.

Keep abreast of developments in capital markets, legislation, and statutory requirements.

Ensures that financial transactions, policies and procedures meet corporate objectives and regulatory requirements inclusive of related risk and exposure.

Executes and confirms trades with relevant parties.

Participate in morning calls, daily/weekly market updates and strategy meetings.

Interact with various stakeholders internally (Sales/Structuring, Legal, Risk, Quant Teams, IT, Infrastructure. etc.) and externally (Auditors, Clients. etc.) and be prepared to represent the desk on BAU matters without recourse to senior members of the team

Trade an array of instruments: interest rate swaps (nominal and inflation), bonds, repos and options. etc. & manage the live risk on the books

Anticipate market developments and identify trade opportunities in the Trading Books with adequate risk-adjusted returns and appropriate use of internal financial resources. Similarly identify appropriate market opportunities we can offer to clients.

Investigate and embark on a continuous market scanning of Local and International peers to identify and stay abreast of market trends and activities to inform opportunities for new or enhanced products and services.

Conduct market analysis to attain market intelligence to inform strategies going forward.

Initiate market research relating to the product alignment to client needs, competitors and future trends to ensure sustained profitability for CIB and competitive advantage.

Engage in networking activities, e.g.  attending relevant industry conferences, to stay abreast of changes in the industry, aligning portfolio specific processes, product offering and procedures to absorb the impact of change.

  Formulate and influence product strategies based on research findings i.e. Investigate other appropriate distribution strategies which could form part of the distribution strategy, e.g. internet
