SCIB s looking for a Structured Finance Energy – European Platform VP based out of MADRID

The European Structured Finance Energy team is the front-office origination and execution platform covering Power and Renewables financings across Europe. The team operates on a predominantly pan-European basis, with potential involvement in selected global initiatives.

Santander is consistently ranked #1 in Europe and top 3 globally in renewables structured finance. The platform covers both advisory and lending mandates, across a broad range of financing structures.

We are seeking a Vice President with a strong desire to contribute to the continued growth of our financing and debt advisory activities within the Energy transition space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support both the lending and debt advisory segments of the business, including strategic planning, marketing, client engagement, and coordination with external advisors and partners.
  • Originate and execute financing opportunities across the Power and Renewable sectors.
  • Contribute to idea generation by understanding client needs and objectives, working closely with Directors and Managing Directors, as well as other CIB teams (Debt Capital Markets, Ratings Advisory, Risk Solutions).
  • In advisory mandates, act as a key coordinator between clients and funding providers (banks, debt funds, pension funds, etc.) to secure optimal and competitive financing solutions.
  • Support the execution of new and existing mandates across lending and advisory:
    • Advisory: Assist in structuring and placing debt financings, including financial modelling, coordination of due diligence providers and legal advisors, preparation of marketing materials (teasers, information memoranda), and overall process management.
    • Lending: Review due diligence materials, financial models and documentation, participate in negotiations with clients or their advisors, and support presentations to internal credit and pricing committees.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients at working level.
  • Stay abreast of market dynamics and regulatory developments in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
  • Promote teamwork and contribute to the development and mentoring of junior team members.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 7-8 years of experience in structured finance, within advisory and/or lending. (Required)
  • Strong expertise in renewable energy and the broader energy transition landscape. (Required)
  • Solid understanding of legal frameworks and documentation typical in non-recourse project finance. (Required)
  • International experience is highly valued. (Preferred)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering or related fields (Required)
  • Postgraduate studies (MBA or equivalent) considered a plus. (Preferred).

Languages

  • Mandatory: English & Spanish (Full professional proficiency) (Required)

Hard Skills

  • Deep sector knowledge in Energy and Infrastructure, supported by relevant deal experience. (Required)
  • Strong structured finance fundamentals, including cash flow analysis and debt structuring (senior, HoldCo, subordinated). (Required)
  • Ability to review and build complex financial models. (Required)
  • Sound understanding of debt, equity and derivative markets. (Required)

Soft Skills

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics to senior audiences.
  • Experience drafting proposals and supporting business development efforts.
  • Proactive mindset, strong execution focus and ability to perform in a demanding environment.
  • Team-oriented, with leadership and mentoring capabilities.
