SCIB s looking for a Structured Finance Energy – European Platform ED based out of Madrid
The European Structured Finance Energy team is the front-office origination and execution platform covering Power and Renewables financings across Europe. The team operates on a predominantly pan-European basis, with potential involvement in selected global initiatives.
Santander is consistently ranked #1 in Europe and top 3 globally in renewables structured finance. The platform covers both advisory and lending mandates, across a broad range of financing structures.
We are seeking an Executive Director to play a leading role in the origination, structuring and execution of financing and debt advisory opportunities within the Energy transition space, while contributing to the strategic development of the platform.
We’re shaping the way we work through innovation, cutting-edge technology, collaboration and the freedom to explore new ideas. To succeed in this role, you will be responsible for:
- Lead the origination and execution of financing and advisory opportunities across the Power and Renewable sectors, taking ownership of key client relationships and transactions.
- Drive business development efforts, identifying new opportunities and expanding the client franchise across sponsors, corporates and institutional investors.
- Act as a senior point of contact for clients, maintaining and strengthening long-term relationships at decision-maker level.
- Lead the structuring and negotiation of complex financing solutions across lending and advisory mandates, ensuring optimal outcomes for clients and the bank.
- Oversee the execution of transactions end-to-end, coordinating internal teams (DCM, Ratings Advisory, Risk Solutions, Legal, Risk) and external stakeholders (clients, advisors, lenders).
- In advisory mandates, lead the interaction with funding providers (banks, debt funds, institutional investors), managing competitive processes and delivering tailored financing strategies.
- In lending transactions, take responsibility for credit analysis, structuring, and internal approval processes, including direct interaction with senior credit and risk committees.
- Contribute to the strategic positioning of the platform, including sector coverage priorities, product development and market positioning.
- Provide leadership, mentorship and oversight to junior team members, ensuring high-quality execution and professional development.
- Stay closely connected to market trends, regulatory developments and investor appetite within the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Professional Experience
- 10–12+ years of experience in structured finance, within advisory and/or lending. (Required)
- Proven track record in originating and executing complex transactions in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. (Required)
- Strong experience managing client relationships and leading negotiations. (Required)
- Demonstrated ability to lead deal teams and manage multiple transactions simultaneously. (Required)
- International experience strongly preferred. (Preferred)
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering or related fields preferred). (Required)
- Postgraduate studies (MBA or equivalent) considered a plus. (Preferred)
Languages
- Full professional proficiency in English and Spanish (Required)
Hard Skills
- Deep sector expertise in Energy and Infrastructure, with a strong track record in renewables. (Required)
- Advanced structuring capabilities across a range of financing solutions (project finance, HoldCo, hybrid and structured products). (Required)
- Strong commercial acumen and business development mindset. (Required)
- Ability to lead complex negotiations and manage senior stakeholder relationships. (Required)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior audiences (clients, investors, internal committees). (Required)
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities. (Required)
- High level of autonomy, accountability and execution discipline (Required)
