Under general supervision provides support to the factory-built engineering department by building and testing trusses and through the preparation of engineering drawings utilizing software to design wood trusses.
Location: Must office out of Granger, IN or Grand Rapids, Mi
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Select materials from shop inventory as specified on design documents.
- Operates press or other equipment to assemble components into a completed truss.
- Performs testing of trusses as directed.
- Performs duties consistent with established safety rules and procedures.
- Designs metal plate connected wood trusses utilizing structural design software.
- Prepares engineering drawings for manufactured housing roof trusses as assigned.
- Prepares written repair procedures and drawings for damaged trusses under the direction/supervision of an engineer.
- Optimize designs for maximum efficiency.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Basic knowledge of algebra, trigonometry and geometry.
- Ability to understand load transfers and knowledge of material strengths and values.
- Working knowledge of floor and roof systems.
- Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and structural plans
- Strong math skills
- Ability to use a computer, and software in a technical environment.
- Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the public
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, including customers, architects, engineers, peers, and management
