Strength & Conditioning Associate

Job Summary:

The performance associate will assist with the delivery of health and performance solutions within Baseball Operations. This role will work closely Strength and Conditioning, Medical and Athletic Training staff and Performance Science to optimize performance. The position will be based in Detroit, Michigan at Comerica Park.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of existing Health and Performance initiatives across the organization, including data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Set up, calibrate, operate and troubleshoot all technologies used within Health and Performance, particularly those used in player assessments to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Assist with data management, organization and integration into the organization’s internal databases.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with medical, strength and conditioning, performance science, nutrition and coaching staff.    
  • Work closely with the performance staff to develop and disseminate information from Health and Performance initiatives.
  • Assist with the maintenance, calibration and upkeep of health and performance related equipment, including facility maintenance.
  • Perform exploratory Health and Performance research projects and analysis using a combination of health and performance data as directed.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Detroit Tigers strength and conditioning program, including supervising team warm-ups, strength sessions and conditioning sessions.
  • Other duties as directed by ML Head Performance Coach

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sports science, kinesiology, athletic training, physical therapy or similar field.
  • CSCS Certified through NSCA. Additional certifications such as certified athletic training (ATC) or certified physical therapist (PT) highly desired.
  • First Aid/CPR Certified
  • Experience with the following technologies preferred but not required: Force plates, Catapult, GymAware, Motion Capture, Trackman, Trajekt.
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent computer skills. Coding or data visualization skills a plus; R preferred. SQL skills a plus.
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills. Candidate must be able to convey complex performance findings to relevant staffs.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent attention to detail.
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Previous experience working with professional athletes and coaches a plus.
  • The ideal candidate must be willing to work longs hours, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • The candidate must be available full-time.
  • Willing and able to relocate to the Detroit metro area for duration of contract.
