At the Rakuten Ichiba Planning Department, we work to shape the future of Japan's largest e-commerce marketplace.
We consider from various perspectives what the shopping site of the future should be, and what kind of positioning and services we should create to make it a sales floor of choice for customers.
In this department, we consider and realize the ideal delivery method that will satisfy all customers as the external environment changes in the medium to long term.
In order to meet the diverse delivery needs of customers, it is essential not only to strengthen customer services, but also to strengthen the logistics strategies of the stores that sell and ship products.
To achieve this, we develop functions for the systems used by stores, propose logistics solutions, and plan and develop new services to help strengthen the logistics of stores.
In this way, we promote the planning and execution of attractive plans for both customers who use Rakuten Ichiba and stores that operate on the site.

About the Core Platform Group
The Core Platform Group is a team responsible for planning and improving the foundational commerce functions of Rakuten Ichiba. Currently, the group is driving initiatives focused on the following key themes:
- Fundamental overhaul of product information and registration structure
We are working on mid- to long-term initiatives to optimize the overall product structure on Rakuten Ichiba, aiming to enhance searchability and data usability.
- Support for exploring next-generation sales platforms
We contribute to the conceptualization and structural planning of new sales platforms that could either complement or potentially succeed Rakuten Ichiba, by collaborating with and supporting other departments.
- Improvements in the payment domain
We handle adjustments and improvements to Rakuten Ichiba’s payment services and related features, including responses to external specification changes.
- Prioritization and management of development projects
We play a cross-functional role in organizing multiple development projects, setting priorities, coordinating schedules, and facilitating internal alignment to support smooth execution across Rakuten Ichiba.
Our mission is to transform the foundational architecture of Rakuten Ichiba. This requires close collaboration with multiple teams across the organization. While the complexity is high, the position offers significant opportunities for growth and impact.

Position Details
You will be engaged in multiple ongoing projects within the Core Platform Group (e.g., product data structure overhaul, next-gen platform exploration, payment domain updates, cross-team development prioritization). Rather than being assigned to a single project, members are expected to flexibly contribute across initiatives, depending on their skills, experience, and team needs.
- Define service requirements and design specifications
- Coordinate and align with internal and external stakeholders
- Lead project management tasks including milestone planning, scheduling, and risk mitigation
- Analyze user behavior and business data to generate insights and hypotheses
- Create structured materials and documentation to support decision-making processes
- Take initiative to design and drive tasks from mission and goals, not just pre-defined instructions
This role calls for a proactive mindset—someone who can navigate ambiguity, set direction, and drive progress autonomously.
Work Environment
The team consists of 8 members, including 6 full-time employees and 2 contract staff. Team members range in age from their 20s to late 30s, with diverse backgrounds and active contributions across all levels.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of professional experience at a business company or a consulting firm
Examples: product planning, service requirement definition, system development coordination, project management, data analysis, etc.
- Proven experience in driving initiatives involving multiple stakeholders - Demonstrated ability to independently design and improve workflows or business processes
- Basic documentation skills using tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, or Confluence
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience or knowledge related to the e-commerce domain
- Data analysis skills using SQL or similar tools
- Basic understanding of IT system architecture and its constraints
