Job Summary:

The Strategic Financial Planner is responsible for advancing the overall financial performance of Geisinger Health and its subsidiaries. The position is responsible for leading the development, analysis, and management of operating budgets, capital budgets, rolling forecasts, and long range financial plans. The Strategic Financial Planner partners across finance, clinical, and operational teams to ensure budgetary alignment with organizational strategy while promoting transparency, accuracy, and financial stewardship.

Job Duties:

A key focus of this position is the ownership of software setup, configuration, maintenance, and user training related to system‑wide budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning tools. The Strategic Financial Planner combines deep technical expertise in Strata OnePlan and long‑range planning platforms with a collaborative, service‑oriented mindset. They ensure optimal system performance, support user adoption, and serve as a subject matter expert for enterprise planning technologies.

The Strategic Financial Planner analyzes financial performance, identifies trends and variances, prepares executive‑level reporting, and communicates insights to both finance and non‑finance stakeholders to support informed, data‑driven decisions that enhance operational and financial performance.

  • Collaborates and coordinates with Strategy, Treasury, and other Operations leaders to prepare capital and operating business plans for enterprise strategic business opportunities which may include core or non-core activities.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Revenue and Reimbursement team, as well as Clinical Enterprise Finance Partners, to align on revenue modeling assumptions and methodologies. 
  • Prepares impact analysis of new acquisitions and business ventures including operations, capital, cash, debt, and financial health indicators.
  • Responsible for strategic oversight, implementation, and quality control of all revenue-related forecasting across the Clinical Enterprise, including hospitals, clinical institutes, and pharmacy.
  • Prepares revenue variance analysis, comparing to prior periods and/or between forecasts.
  • Compiles and maintains monthly forecasting models and related presentations.
  • Maintains understanding of complex accounting as it applies to joint ventures, partnerships, and other business arrangements. 
  • Produces and presents retrospective business plan reviews for leadership.
  • Prepares analysis to inform decision making on financial goals and targets.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Finance Partners to ensure that forecasts and models reflect appropriate operational activity.  Assesses and evaluates forecast submissions providing actionable analysis and guidance. 
  • Prepares cash forecasts and assesses financial metrics for monthly, annual, and long-range forecasting.
  • Creates scenarios and sensitivities to evaluate forecast assumptions, assess volatility, and inform the decision-making process.
  • Engages with Capital Management team to review, revise, and maintain finance capital policies, templates, and software business plan functionality.
  • Supports and participates in promotion of OneGeisinger business planning and analysis, including competitor and industry benchmarking.
  • Promotes advanced use of strategic and capital planning software and tools.
  • Participates in finance department improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Participates in special projects, reporting requirements, and committees assigned to support finance and/or operational initiatives. 
  • Provides regular communications and presentations of financial forecasts and assumptions to internal leadership.
  • Develops and maintains strong business partner relationships across the Geisinger enterprise. 
  • Actively seeks input from members of the management and finance teams when appropriate.
  • Supports colleagues throughout finance, assuming positive intent and acting as an ambassador for all areas of finance when working with key stakeholders.
