Backup Platform Management

• Administer and manage:
  • Commvault
  • Commvault Metallic
  • Veeam Backup & Replication
  • Veeam for AWS
• Configure and maintain:
  • Backup policies, schedules, retention strategies
  • Incremental, differential, and full backup strategies
• Monitor and troubleshoot:
  • Backup failures, job performance, and infrastructure issues

Tape Library Management

• Manage enterprise tape libraries (LTO-based)
• Handle:
  • Tape rotation policies (GFS – Grandfather-Father-Son)
  • Media lifecycle management and inventory tracking
  • Offsite tape handling and vaulting coordination
• Troubleshoot:
  • Drive failures, media errors, and library connectivity issues
• Ensure compliance with long-term archival requirements

Cloud Backup (AWS Focus)

• Manage and configure:
  • AWS Backup
  • Snapshots (EBS, RDS, EC2 backup strategies)
• Ensure:
  • Cross-region backup replication
  • Backup encryption and compliance
• Optimize backup costs and storage tiers (S3, Glacier)

Disaster Recovery & Validation

• Define and implement:
  • DR strategies aligned with RPO/RTO
• Conduct:
  • Regular restore testing (file-level, VM-level, DB-level)
  • DR drills and failover validation
• Document recovery procedures and runbooks

Automation & Integration

• Automate:
  • Backup monitoring and reporting
  • Job health checks and alerting
  • Ticket creation and escalation workflows
• Use:
  • PowerShell / Python scripting
• Integrate with:
  • Monitoring tools (SolarWinds, etc.)
  • ITSM tools (ServiceNow or similar)

Operations & Collaboration

• Work with:
  • Windows, Linux, and VMware teams for backup alignment
• Support:
  • Incident, problem, and change management processes
• Participate in audits and ensure compliance readiness

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Commvault and/or Veeam
• Deep understanding of:
  • Backup architectures and data protection strategies
  • Storage systems (SAN/NAS/Object storage)
• Experience with tape libraries (LTO, media handling, rotation policies)
• Hands-on with AWS backup services
• Strong scripting skills (PowerShell or Python)
• Proven experience in DR planning and execution

Good to Have

• Immutable backup / ransomware protection strategies
• Experience with hybrid backup environments
• Knowledge of Azure Backup (bonus, not mandatory)
• Deduplication appliances (Data Domain, etc.)
