The Role

Macquarie University Health is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sterilising Services Technician to join our Sterilising Services Unit (SSU) on a full-time, permanent basis.

This is a vital role supporting safe, timely and high-quality surgical and clinical care across Macquarie University Hospital and Clinics. As a Sterilising Services Technician, you will play a critical part in ensuring reusable medical devices are processed to the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance, directly contributing to positive patient outcomes.

Working in our modern, fast-paced SSU, you will be responsible for the cleaning, inspection, assembly, sterilisation and distribution of medical and surgical instruments in accordance with national standards, organisational policies and best practice guidelines. You will be part of a collaborative team that values precision, accountability and continuous improvement.

This role is ideal for both experienced technicians and those earlier in their career who are passionate about working in a high-quality healthcare support service environment.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing the collection, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, assembly, sterilisation and distribution of reusable medical devices

  • Ensuring all processes comply with relevant standards, including AS/NZS 4187, ISO and GENCA requirements

  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation in line with Macquarie University Health policies

  • Participating in audit preparation, quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Contributing to a safe working environment through adherence to occupational health and safety practices

  • Working collaboratively within the SSU and broader clinical teams to support efficient service delivery

  • Participating in competency-based training, professional development and performance review processes

  • Identifying, reporting and managing incidents and risks in accordance with policy

Role-Specific Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certificate III in Sterilising Services or equivalent (HLT31107, HLT31112 or HLT37015)

  • Previous experience as a Sterilising Services Technician (private health experience desirable but not essential)

Role-Specific Conditions

• Ability to work shift work in accordance with the roster, including on-call weekends

You may also have to satisfy Macquarie University Health that you meet all background checks (including criminal record and qualification checks).
