SCOPE OF POSITION 

Sterile Supply Technician II is responsible for the basic decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments required for medical procedures. This role ensures that surgical instruments are cleaned, processed, and stored properly to maintain patient safety and prevent infections. Sterile Supply Technician II functions as an essential member of the Central Sterile Processing team and supports multiple reprocessing sites across the Medical Center.

POSITION SUMMARY

Sterile Supply Technician II performs routine tasks associated with the cleaning, inspection, sorting, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. This includes decontaminating reusable instruments, completing post decontamination responsibilities, assembling instrument sets, peel packing/wrapping and preparing trays for sterilization, completing the sterilization process, ensuring proper storage, maintaining eyewash stations and records. The role requires adherence to established protocols and standards to support patient safety and efficient surgical procedures. This is an entry level position that works under the supervision of senior sterile processing staff and leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following requirements represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position:

For Hire: High school diploma or GED. Prior experience in a healthcare or sterile processing setting is preferred but not required.

Training: Graduation from an approved instrument processing training program is preferred

Ongoing Requirements: Must maintain knowledge of sterile processing best practices, safety protocols, and hospital policies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Physical Abilities:

Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy trays and equipment (up to 50 lbs.), and perform repetitive tasks.

Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle delicate surgical instruments.

The ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

PHYSICAL/ VISUAL/ MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:

  • Lift or carry objects of 40 lbs. or less
  • To stand and walk for long periods
  • To stoop, crouch, and kneel while obtaining and storing instrumentation
  • To reach, handle, and use finger dexterity while processing instrumentation
  • To see far and near
  • Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise,
  • odors, multi-stimuli, etc.
  • Pressure from high volume census to meet deadlines to obtain adequate instrumentation from vendors.
  • Extensive people contact and interruptions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit.
