ChristianaCare is searching for an experienced Sterile Processing Technician II. The selected candidate will be responsible for cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing of all instruments and equipment according to the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD), the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), and the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) current standards. Incumbents are also accountable for demonstrating awareness of personal and work area safety at all times; using evidence-based practices (EBP) and complying with facility safety policies and procedures in carrying out duties including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases and; keeping knowledge current on aseptic techniques and basic microbiology sufficient to understand the ways diseases and infections are transmitted and the importance of clean and sterile supplies in patient care; attending training in new and improved sterilization practices and developments in the microbiology, bacteriology, and therapeutic practices as they affect the sterile supply operation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains instruments for service-specific specialties; collaborates with the CSP Supervisor and the Assistant O.R Nurse Managers and OR Service Line Coordinators (e.g. Open Heart, Neuro, Ortho, Thoracic, Vascular, GYN, GU, ENT, Eye, Dental, General, Lap etc.)
Ability to work well within a team environment: by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback; by supporting team goals and encouraging other team members; and by collaborating with patient care team members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods, and/or reduce costs.
Communicates with Instrument Coordinator via the Central Sterile Processing management team for procurement of instrumentation specific to assigned service.
Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment following established policy and procedure.
Inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes medical devices following manufacturer’s recommendations and established procedure.
Assemble, wrap and label basic and especially specialty instruments and sets according to information in the CensiTrac system for tracking purposes.
Receive, unload, sort, inspect, wash and process instruments and equipment for decontamination both manually and by automated means.
Reads, interprets, and records sterilization parameters from sterilizer recording mechanism and completes records of sterilization process, chemical/biological test results, and sterilizer cleaning.
Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility, in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards.
Performs biological and chemical monitoring in accordance with quality assurance standards.
Fill Operating Room case cart requisitions for scheduled next day cases, add-on cases and STAT cases with instruments, linen, stainless steel items, soft good supplies, etc.
Preferred thorough knowledge of Endo instrumentation function and maintenance.
Assist with orientation and training of Sterile Processing Tech I and Sterile Processing Interns.
Directs department activities in the absence of Tech III or Supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Must have 2-3 years of experience working in sterile processing.
Sterile Processing Technician Certification CBSPD/ CRCST required.
Current National CRCST or HSPA certification and 1 additional certification listed below.
Completion CER, CIS, or CHL preferred and ability to demonstrate competency of 25-30 plus instrument trays on the consistent basis.
Hourly Pay Range: $21.03 - $31.54
This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
