Job Description

Reporting to the Project Health & Safety Director, the Stations H&S Lead will be responsible for providing support to the management team, supervisors, forepersons, and workers. This position will provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day health and safety requirements of the Surrey Langley Skytrain project.

Responsibilities

  • Support and promote South Fraser Station Partners - Occupational Health & Safety Management System, Construction Site Specific Safety Management Plan.
  • Assist site operations with compliance to current Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and site safety rules.
  • Liaise with Site Superintendents on a regular basis regarding health and safety matters.
  • Educate and guide project personnel on safety best practices, OHS legislation, and site-specific safety requirements following the Project H&S Management System and Project Specific Safety Plan (PSSP).
  • Assist with the completion of all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Be u; be a positive safety role model and support for all personnel.
  • Maintain safety standards.
  • Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective actions, as required.
  • Support the development and implementation and review of safe job procedures/JHAs.
  • Follow-up with injured workers, as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all injuries/illnesses.
  • Maintain up to date documentation (investigations, near misses, incidents).
  • Organize and schedule required safety training and orientations as required.
  • Support operational teams to coordinate first aid coverage as needed.
  • Analyze and identify leading and lagging indicators.
  • Actively participate in the contractor management program – assist in prequalification reviews, support pre-mobilization activities, provide ongoing support for contractors
  • Provide active support to contractors to assist with the development, implementation and ongoing management of their project specific and compliant Health and Safety policies, programs and procedures.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Above average analytical and organizational skills needed to complete reports and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both receptive (listening) & expressive (writing & speaking).
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships in a large and complex network.
  • Demonstrated leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven computer skills in Microsoft Office 365 are essential.
  • Construction/infrastructure experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Must be physically fit, prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including working at height.
  • Exceptional incident investigation practices and interview skills.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate and/or Diploma considered an asset.
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) Certification / National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years Construction/Infrastructure health and safety experience.
  • Confined Space training is an asset.
  • Fall Protection training is an asset.
  • Train the Trainer, of any safety-related training is an asset
  • WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Attendant is an asset.

Total compensation for this role includes an annual salary in the range of $140k depending on working experience, education, and certifications, benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, training , and RSP matching contribution.
