The role:
We’re looking for an experienced engineering manager to join our team in Salem as our statewide maintenance & operations engineer. In this executive role, you will lead approximately 240 employees within the Maintenance & Operations Branch and guide and implement maintenance and operations throughout the state. You will also provide strategic direction and management for the state highway system, fleet and state radio system. Apply today!

A day in the life:
Lead and manage the maintenance and operational transportation assets associated with our 18,000 lane miles of statewide highway systems.
Lead the statewide budget process, standards development, implementation of initiatives and evaluation of the division’s maintenance and operations standards and programs.
Review and inform changes in departmental direction and priorities and adapt program plans, guidance, budget and expectations to implement changes.
Oversee developing, evaluating and implementing legislation affecting the branch and activities statewide.
Serve on various committees, provide strategic direction and chair various teams and groups which involve internal agency coordination and engagement with external partners.
Act as our agency's emergency administrator for the emergency preparedness response program.
Manage the preparation and administration of biennial and annual budget requests for the overall statewide maintenance and operations budget.
This position is required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays and weekends.
Work in both office and field environments - occasional work outdoors may be required with potential exposure to various hazards, all weather conditions and rough terrain.
Hybrid work options available - can work remotely up to 3 days per week!

Minimum qualifications:
Seven years of management experience in engineering.
OR
Four years of management experience in engineering and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Special qualifications:
Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) license in the State of Oregon OR the ability to obtain license within six months of hire.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain a temporary permit to practice engineering, pursuant to ORS 672.109, within six months from date of hire.

Excellent communicator and coalition builder with the ability to manage the conflicting priorities of different partners and the ability to maintain good working relationships.
Experience implementing policies and guidance with staff you do not directly manage.
