In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
Federal Work Study student may apply.
In good disciplinary standing.
Must be located in the U.S.
Requirements: at least 3 semesters remaining at Berklee (may be waived for individuals with advanced understanding and experience in stagecraft).
Schedule:
Upon applying for this position you will first be asked to provide us with your weekly class schedule and availability. We produce 2000+ events each year, some shifts can start early in the morning and end late at night. We have to put together a diverse collection of schedules to staff all of these events. Preferred availability include: 1 day M-Thurs completely open between 8am-midnight; 1-2 weekdays open 8am-3pm. 1-2 weekdays open from 12pm-12am. 3-5 weekdays open from 4pm-12am.
If your schedule does not have availability before 5PM on any weekdays then this job will not fit.
Communication Skills:
You will be required to interact and communicate with Berklee faculty, staff, students, professional bands and musicians, general audience members.
You will need to respond promptly to email and phone communication with the managers.
Organized and Responsible:
Our schedules vary each week. Lateness or missing work is not tolerated.
Expected to be able to balance your academic and performance schedules with your work obligations.
Every show is different and requires different skills.
There is a vast knowledge base and skill set in this field, you will need to be organized in your time commitments to learn and fulfill the job requirements.
Self Motivated:
We provide training for a basic set of skills, but employees are required to constantly develop skills by staying engaged and inquisitive during all shifts. You will not be able to learn the skills needed for this job without actively trying to educate yourself and expose yourself to as many different experiences as possible. You can only be successful if you are truly willing to be committed to this job. If you are not willing to dedicate time to the skills of audio engineering, lighting, and stage craft then do not apply.
Knowledge in Live Audio, Lighting, Stagecraft. Experience is preferred, but may not be required if you meet all other qualifications. Please indicate experience level with your application email.
Calm Under Pressure:
Be aware that the live concert environment can be tense. There is always a deadline, and at times artists, performers, and technicians are under pressure.
The theater environment is an area where it is necessary to keep calm and clear headed at all times to operate safely and efficiently.
The work can at times be physically intense as well, involving moving heavy equipment, climbing stairs, and ladders. If uncomfortable in that environment then this is not a good position for you.
