Staff Technical Writer

Okta is seeking an experienced technical writer with a passion for creating and delivering customer-centered technical content. We’re looking for a collaborative, creative team member who understands how to write content that is clear, concise, and relevant. 

In this role, you will work closely with a global network of engineers, product managers, and customer success professionals to understand real-world use cases for identity and access management. You will create practical, technical content that guides Okta customers in successfully adopting and deploying our solutions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Independently execute and finish end-to-end documentation tasks toward a larger goal, including writing, editing, and making content publication-ready.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, QA, Support, and members of the Information Development team, proactively advocating for documentation best practices and coordinating updates across multiple teams.
  • Analyze customer feedback before and after delivering documentation to enhance content depth, quality, and relevance, and suggest/implement improvements to the content portfolio.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives to enhance documentation standards, content architecture, website presentation, and processes, acting as a positive multiplier for the team.
  • Translate feature and architecture designs into specific deliverables and test features in the UI to ensure procedural accuracy.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 6+ years of relevant experience writing technical documentation for Cloud or Enterprise products.
  • Practical experience with topic-based writing, minimalism, and scenario-driven development with a proven ability to simplify complex tasks.
  • Knowledge of Okta or similar identity and access management solutions.
  • Strong ability to understand the application of security products in the real world and produce use case-based content.
  • Experience using Madcap Flare or similar authoring tools.
  • Experience using source control tools, such as Git and GitHub.
  • Proven record of writing accurate, clear, and concise documentation for a global audience, with an ability to plan deliverables with reasonable estimates.

Desired knowledge 

  • Familiarity with localization and translation best practices
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with DITA, Oxygen Editor, and structure authoring.

Below is the annual salary range for candidates located in Canada. Your actual salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, RRSP with a match, healthcare spending, telemedicine, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in Canada is between:
$104,000$154,000 CAD
