Role Summary:
The Senior Telecom Security Engineer is responsible for implementing, operating, and validating security controls across telecom networks, including 4G/5G, Open RAN (O-RAN) , and cloud-native environments.
This role focuses on hands-on security execution across lab, cloud, and network platforms, while contributing to compliance, automation, and future-generation (5G-Advanced / 6G-ready) security readiness.
The Senior Engineer works closely with RAN, Core, Cloud, DevOps, and Test teams, and supports security assurance activities for multi-vendor and government-aligned telecom programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
Telecom & O-RAN Security Implementation
- Implement and maintain security controls for LTE, 5G, and Open RAN (O-RAN) systems
- Support security testing of O-RU, O-DU, and O-CU components in lab environments
- Assist with security readiness for future-generation (6G / Beyond-5G) telecom systems
Security Testing & Validation
- Perform security testing including:
- Vulnerability assessments
- Configuration and compliance checks
- Interface and platform security validation
- Support GSMA NESAS-aligned security testing activities
- Assist labs with audit readiness and evidence collection
Cloud & Platform Security
- Secure telecom workloads deployed on:
- AWS and hybrid cloud platforms
- Kubernetes and containerized environments
- Implement IAM, logging, monitoring, and baseline security controls
- Support vulnerability scanning, patching, and remediation workflows
SecDevOps & Supply Chain Security
- Integrate security checks into CI/CD pipelines
- Perform SBOM/HBOM analysis for container images and network functions
- Enforce CIS benchmarks and container security best practices
- Support secure onboarding of multi-vendor telecom software
Threat Detection & Incident Support
- Monitor, analyze, and respond to security events
- Support incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation
- Assist with tabletop exercises and security simulations
Observability & Security Visibility
- Build and maintain dashboards for:
- Vulnerability status
- Compliance posture
- Security operations visibility
- Track and report security KPIs to engineering and leadership teams
Cross-Functional & Customer Collaboration
- Work with RAN, Core, Cloud, and DevOps teams to embed security-by-design
- Support customer security reviews, audits, and technical walkthroughs
- Communicate security findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5–8+ years of experience in telecom, cloud security, or cybersecurity engineering
- Strong understanding of:
- 4G/5G network architectures
- Open RAN (O-RAN) concepts
- Cloud-native and containerized platforms
- Hands-on experience with:
- Linux and scripting
- Vulnerability management tools
- Network and platform security controls
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with telecom security labs or pre-deployment validation environments
- Familiarity with GSMA NESAS, NIST, CIS Controls, or ISO frameworks
- Exposure to 5G-Advanced or early 6G security concepts
- Relevant certifications (AWS Security, CEH, Security+, CySA+, etc.)
