We're embarking on an engineering transformation with the key focus on quality, AI powered engineering and automation.
You have knowledge that spans both development and operations, including coding, infrastructure management, system admin/engineering and DevOps Toolchains.
Together we will build tomorrow’s bank today, using world-leading engineering, technology, and innovation.
Do work that matters:
We're building tomorrow’s bank today, which means we need creative and diverse engineers to help us redefine what customers expect from a bank. Envisioning new technologies that are still waiting to be invented and reimagining products that support our customers and help build Australia’s future economy.
Within the Manage & Own Crew in CBA’s Digital and Technology Home Buying Domain, you will help shape the technology that powers the end-to-end customer home loan user journey. By leveraging modern cloud platforms, distributed systems, and AI-enabled engineering practices, you will drive innovation while maintaining the reliability, security, and quality expected at CBA, creating seamless experiences that millions of customers rely on during one of the most important moments of their lives.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a key technical leadership role driving innovation across this journey. You will design and deliver full-stack, full-cycle solutions, combining .NET and ASP.NET Core backend platforms with modern front-end experiences built in React and Next.js, while working across the full engineering lifecycle to build scalable, secure, and high-performing platforms that enable customers to manage and access their home loan products in real time.
See yourself in our team:
The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53.000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.
CBA’s Manage and Own Crew plays a key role in the Home Lending lifecycle, focusing on shaping and delivering the customer journey that enables customers to manage and own their home lending products seamlessly. As part of the Digital and Technology Home Buying Domain, the Manage and Own Chapter – Software Engineering is responsible for building and evolving the technology that underpins this experience.
The team operates with a true full-stack, full-lifecycle ownership model, designing, building, deploying, and continuously improving the platforms and services that support the end-to-end journey. By leveraging AI-powered engineering practices, the crew aims to significantly enhance engineering capacity, output, quality, and delivery velocity, enabling faster innovation while maintaining the high reliability and security standards expected across CBA’s digital home lending platforms.
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
Build and own full-stack solutions – delivering backend services in .NET / ASP.NET Core and modern front ends using React and Next.js, with strong focus on performance, maintainability, and accessibility.
Work across the full engineering lifecycle – from problem definition and architecture through delivery, CI/CD, observability, and production support in an Agile and DevSecOps environment.
Design scalable backend platforms – building secure, resilient APIs and services in .NET, applying strong domain modelling, performance optimisation, and operational visibility.
Deliver complex front-end capabilities – engineering modern web platforms with React and Next.js, using scalable component patterns, SSR/SSG strategies, and performance optimisation.
Leverage AI in engineering workflows – using AI to accelerate development, testing, and design while maintaining clear guardrails around code quality, data protection, and security.
Understand AI risks and controls – identifying potential issues such as hallucinated code, vulnerabilities, or unsafe dependencies, and applying strong validation and review practices.
Lead through technical depth and mentorship – guiding engineers in full-cycle engineering, modern architecture, and responsible AI adoption while maintaining high standards for quality and security.
