Vultr is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Core Cloud Engineering to report to the Director of Core Cloud Engineering. This role is for engineers who combine deep technical mastery with strategic influence, setting the direction for Core Cloud and leading system designs at global scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboration: Influence and align cross-functional teams (Networking, Storage, SRE, Product) on platform evolution.
  • Mentorship: Coach engineers across all levels, raising the technical bar in systems programming and distributed systems.
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Architect and evolve hypervisor integrations (libvirt, QEMU, KVM) across thousands of hosts.
    • Design scalable, automated networking systems built on BGP, EVPN, and OVS.
    • Lead large-scale automation and provisioning frameworks with GitLab CI/CD and Puppet/Ansible.
    • Champion observability and reliability practices with Grafana, Sentry, and SumoLogic.
  • Innovation & Scale: Drive advanced performance tuning across CPU, memory, I/O, networking, and storage layers.

Qualifications

  • Expert-level experience in Rust (preferred) or other compiled languages for systems programming.
  • Proven record architecting and scaling hypervisor-based infrastructure.
  • Mastery of Linux internals, kernel debugging, and performance engineering.
  • Strong background in networking automation (BGP, EVPN, OVS).
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab) and infrastructure automation (Puppet/Ansible).
  • Track record of setting technical strategy and mentoring senior engineers.

 

Compensation

$135,000 - $155,000

This salary can vary based on location, years of experience, background and skill set.
