Position Summary
As a Staff Software Development Engineer, you’ll lead the design and delivery of complex, modern software solutions—mentoring engineers, shaping architectural direction, and driving technical excellence. You’ll champion the integration of AI-driven features and spearhead the transformation of legacy systems into scalable, user-friendly web applications.
This role is ideal for engineers passionate about hands-on innovation, leveraging new technologies, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
What you will do:
Collaborate within an Agile team to design, develop, and deliver high-quality web and batch applications using Angular, Java, and Oracle technologies.
Lead modernization initiatives, migrating legacy systems—including green-screen interfaces—to modern, scalable Angular web applications and optimized backend processes.
Drive the integration of AI and machine learning capabilities into applications, identifying opportunities for automation, intelligent features, and data-driven improvements.
Develop robust frontend (Angular) and backend (Java/Oracle) code, utilizing test-driven development principles for both web interfaces and batch processing components.
Mentor and guide team members, providing technical leadership and fostering best practices in coding, architecture, modernization, and AI adoption.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on hands on Java, Angular and Typescript including:
Proficiency with Oracle databases, including writing complex queries and performance tuning
Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including CI/CD and Agile methodologies
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
10+ years of progressive experience in software development or architecture
Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams in an Agile environment
Deep expertise in designing scalable, high-availability systems using Java, Angular, and TypeScript
Hands-on experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools
Familiarity with microservices architecture and API design
Experience working with large-scale Oracle databases in enterprise environments
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated ability to drive technical innovation or process improvement
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$118,450.00 - $236,900.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
