Job Purpose

As a Staff Software Architect, you will be responsible for architecting and designing cutting edge enterprise backend services responsible for digital transformation within Trimble. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building highly scalable cloud native backend services that provides a transformative customer experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • Architecture Strategy: Lead the design of complex, multi-region, and highly available distributed systems. Author documentation to standardize how we use [AWS/Azure] components.

  • Technical Governance: Spearhead Architectural Reviews. Review high-stakes designs from various pods to ensure alignment with global reliability and security standards.

  • Cloud Economics (FinOps): Partner with Finance and Engineering leadership to manage cloud budget, implementing automated cost-control measures and attribution models.

  • Platform Evolution: Lead the transition toward [Serverless / Kubernetes / Internal Developer Platforms] to abstract away infrastructure complexity for product development teams

  • Mentorship & Influence: You don't manage people, but you manage outcomes. You will be fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: 10+ years in software engineering or systems architecture, with at least 5 years focused on large-scale cloud environments.

  • Expertise: Deep, "under-the-hood" knowledge of cloud primitives (Networking, IAM, Storage, Compute) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Nomad), event-driven patterns (Kafka).

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Mastery of Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation at an enterprise scale (modular design, state management, and CI/CD integration).

  • Communication: Proven ability to translate complex technical "debt" into business risk for non-technical stakeholders.

Skill Set

  • Good understanding of cloud native backend services, and their operating systems principles, design and architecture

  • Proficiency in the following areas

    • Backend development

    • OOAD and Design Patterns

    • Java / Python / .NET / Go - any of these programming languages

    • Proficient knowledge in any of cloud providers like AWS / Azure / GCP

  • Exposure to building API based cloud services / applications is preferred.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must have architected at least 3 large enterprise-level implementations or 4 to 6 projects using these technologies.

  • Must have served in an organization where agile practices are in use.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Upbeat, highly motivated, and a self-starter

Good to have

  • Knowledge and exposure to front-end frameworks like React 

  • Active contributions to Open Source cloud-native projects.

  • Deep understanding of Compliance Frameworks (SOC2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) within cloud environments

  • Certification/Experience in AWS/Azure cloud resources
