Staff Security Engineer, Detection Engineering

MongoDB is seeking a Staff Engineer responsible for technical leadership in the Detection Engineering function as part of the MongoDB Security Operations organization.  

The Detection Engineering function is responsible for the MongoDB security detection platform as well as the development of a broad range of security detections.  This work delivers security response capabilities across multiple environments including both corporate applications and production environments.  

This individual will help drive major security detection platform projects and will grow the team’s capabilities to a level of maturity commensurate with the growth of the MongoDB business while staying ahead of customer demands.

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  • Engineering data pipelines and gathering telemetry necessary to support critical security detection work for MongoDB.
  • Performing ongoing detailed analysis based on external incidents, emergent threats or internal requests from security leadership.
  • Strategically enhance our mitigation tools and defense posture based on analysis of product features, adversary behaviors, and security incidents.
  • Collaborate broadly across the Security, Product and Technology organizations to better inform technical security decision making and overall risk analysis.
  • Drive towards clarity in complex and ambiguous situations including complex incidents and sensitive investigations.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years experience in a technical cybersecurity analysis role.
  • Strong understanding of detection technology and adversarial behavior..
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational environments and drive change.
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages.
  • GCTI, GOSI, GCIH, CISSP or other industry certifications are a plus.

  • Deep understanding of the security industry, best practices, emerging technologies, and leading solutions.
  • Building automation that replaces repetitive detection and response work, reducing toil
  • Experience across all major cloud platforms
  • Ability to build and maintain scalable platforms for high volume security telemetry.
  • Demonstrated passion for cybersecurity and advanced defensive technology.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to identify value and opportunity in unstructured situations.
  • Experience designing and delivering simple solutions to complex problems and executing projects on time and to customer satisfaction.

Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. $137,000$270,000 USD
