DESCRIPTION:
Join our collaborative team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Staff Scientist, Field Applications and contribute by enabling customers to solve complex analytical challenges. You'll serve as a technical expert, providing comprehensive support across our technology platforms while building strong relationships with customers, sales teams, and internal partners. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced scientific instrumentation and contribute to breakthroughs that make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

Working both independently and collaboratively, you'll deliver technical training, optimize applications, troubleshoot complex issues, and demonstrate our technologies through presentations. Your expertise will help customers achieve their research and development goals while supporting the adoption of our solutions across multiple scientific disciplines.

You'll have the opportunity to support colleagues, lead strategic projects, and contribute to product development by providing valuable customer feedback to our R&D teams. This position combines scientific expertise with customer engagement, allowing you to contribute to both technical advancement and business growth.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering) with 6+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience supporting analytical instrumentation and methods.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience supporting biopharmaceutical manufacturing, QC, and/or analytical development environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology and genomic/protein analytical techniques (e.g., real-time PCR/qPCR, digital PCR, capillary electrophoresis (CE)).
  • Experience with analytics/QC workflows relevant to biologics manufacturing (e.g., HPLC, mass spectrometry (MS), ELISA, and related in-process and final product testing concepts).
  • Hands-on experience with assay qualification/validation, method development/optimization, and analytical troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulated environments and regulatory expectations/compliance frameworks (e.g., cGMP, FDA, EMA, pharmacopoeias); familiarity with quality systems such as cGMP/GLP preferred.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems, design experiments, and clearly communicate root cause, corrective actions, and recommendations.
  • Successful experience in customer-facing technical support, including training, presentations, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to audiences ranging from bench scientists to quality leadership.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills; ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across Sales, R&D, Product, and Operations.
  • Proficiency with relevant software applications and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to travel up to 50–75% within the assigned territory (west coast); valid driver’s license and passport required for travel as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $103,100.00–$145,500.00.
