Staff Project Manager - Atlas Data Operations

The Atlas team is focused on advancing machine learning and manipulation capabilities. We are seeking a highly organized and technically-minded Project Manager to oversee and optimize the day-to-day operations of our Robot Pilot team, ensuring efficient data collection and seamless support for our engineering efforts in a fast-paced lab environment.

Schedule/Working Hours:

  • Monday - Friday: 40 hours per week, regular hours (e.g., 9 AM to 6 PM, with flexibility across both first and second shift as required).

Responsibilities:

  • Project & Process Management

    • Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize data operation efficiency, including managing dependencies, prioritizing feature requests, and grooming backlogs in collaboration with engineering/partner teams.

    • Own and manage key operational processes, including the Data Ops intake process for external hardware requests and the change review process in partnership with SQA and Software (SW) teams.

    • Act as a Data Ops process specialist/expert including maintaining, updating, and ensuring the calibration of standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, and documentation across Data Ops, with a specific focus on projects under their direct ownership. This also includes providing expert-level review and support across the team on specialized tasks.

  • Stakeholder Communication & Technical Liaison

    • Serve as the first layer of technical support for shift supervisors and robot pilots, providing troubleshooting assistance and escalating issues to engineering when necessary.

    • Facilitate clear communication channels between Data Ops, Engineering, SQA, and other partner teams to align on project status, dependencies, and operational needs.

    • Note: This role may require periodic flexibility to cover second shift or provide off-hours support to maintain continuous operations.

  • Operational Logistics & Training Support

    • Proactively manage and maintain Data Ops supporting equipment, including overseeing VR equipment BOMs, inventory, replacement, forecasting, and obsolescence plans to ensure 100% availability for the pilots.

    • Assist in ordering, staging, replenishment of props for training cirriculum

    • Contribute to the training program by providing input on curriculum design and serving as a backup or surge capacity trainer as needed.

Technical & Operational Requirements:

  • High School Degree or equivalent; a Bachelor's degree in a technical field or Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, Scrum Master) is preferred.

  • Proven experience managing technical projects or operations in a fast-paced R&D, lab, or technology-focused environment.

  • Strong computer proficiency; familiarity with robotics concepts, VR systems, or machine learning data pipelines is highly desirable.

  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods, with breaks as needed.

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Comfortable wearing and operating VR headsets, motion capture suits, and handheld VR controllers for extended sessions.

    • Note: VR use can be physically demanding and may cause discomfort or motion sickness for some individuals.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable giving and receiving feedback in a collaborative setting.

  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and rapidly evolving technical environments.

  • Proactive, self-directed problem-solver who can investigate issues and consult documentation before escalating.

  • Reliable and punctual, with a strong commitment to structured process and accurate documentation.

The base pay range for this position is between $154,500.00 to $212,500.00 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  This range represents a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
