About this opportunity:
As a Staff Production Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in maximizing value, safety, and operational excellence across Cenovus’s Conventional assets. In this senior technical role, you will lead the development and execution of base asset strategies, provide expert production and operations engineering support, and steward the performance of your geographic area’s P&L. You will apply advanced engineering judgment to optimize wells and field facilities, solve complex production challenges, and drive continuous improvement, all while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across the organization.
This position requires strong technical depth, independent decision‑making, and the ability to influence without authority as you mentor others, guide engineering decisions, and help shape long‑term plans for a core growth area within the Conventional portfolio.
What you’ll do:
Lead safe and compliant design and execution of production engineering activities, championing process safety and operational integrity.
Steward P&L performance for your operating area, partnering with Field Operations to optimize production, operating costs, and capital projects.
Provide advanced engineering support across wellbore, facilities, and pipeline systems, including troubleshooting, hydraulic modelling, artificial lift design, equipment sizing, and downhole intervention planning.
Lead technical scoping, project design, cost estimating, economic analysis, and AFE preparation to support capital and optimization projects.
Develop comprehensive resource development plans and long‑term asset strategies, including defining key infrastructure constraints and debottleneck opportunities, operating cost assumptions, optimized wellbore and facility designs, and conducting complex economic and process modeling across multiple scenarios.
Guide and influence multidisciplinary teams to improve business processes, workflows, and operational performance, building alignment across stakeholders.
Ensure regulatory compliance for wells, pipelines, and facilities while interpreting and applying corporate specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, fostering a collaborative environment focused on knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA or EGBC with the ability to authenticate process and mechanical engineering deliverables.
Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in operations, facilities, or production engineering. 15+ years of industry experience would be preferred.
Strong working knowledge of upstream oil & gas operations, facility design, and production engineering principles.
Proficient in applying industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, CSA Z662).
Strong troubleshooting, decision‑making, and communication skills with the ability to influence multidisciplinary teams.
We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT March 11, 2026.
