Provides oversight for the perfusion program and provides patient care. Clinical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to performance of cardiopulmonary bypass, intra-aortic balloon pumping, autologous blood processing, perfusion lab services, electronic physiological monitoring, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, ventricular assist device, respiratory assist, and isolated limb perfusion. Evaluates techniques and/or equipment for clinical application. Acts as a resource person for physicians, anesthesiologists, and OR personnel.The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Develops, understands and implements CFVHS policies and procedures for perfusion services
Ensures equipment is cleaned, functioning safely, preventative maintenance is scheduled and completed according to schedule and notifies appropriate department(s) when problems develop with equipment
Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of assessment and performance improvement programs for the service
Participates in educational performance improvement activities
Supports patients in the practice of cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the medical regimen
Adjust patient care based on age specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients typically served
Completes accurate charges for patient services and participates in cost containment
Administers medications as approved and directed by the surgeons
Pumps cases as assigned and provides clinical oversight to perfusion services
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Perfusion Technology School diploma required
Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required
Licensed by North Carolina Medical Board as Perfusionist required
CPR certification required

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively to employees or groups
Ability to speak, write and understand English
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistics
Ability to problem solve in standard or emergency situations
Knowledgeable of age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental and/or spiritual needs of patients typically served
Ability to work a minimum of eight hours per day and longer according to case/staffing requirements
Much standing, walking, sitting
Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel objects
Ability to reach with hands and arms
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch
Ability to talk and hear normally, with or without correction
May occasionally lift and/or move, push or pull 50 pounds or more
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Vision must be normal with or without correction
Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials
