We are currently seeking a qualified Design Engineering associate to prepare complex, 3D/CAD design drawings & Bill of Material (BOM) for engineered compressor- and vacuum skidded packages for customers and manufacturing, in accordance with global engineering rulebooks, standards, regulations, directives and specifications. Typical system layouts consist of skid mounted liquid ring vacuum pumps/compressors, auxiliary mechanical seal support systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, valves, instrumentation and pressure piping as well as electrical equipment. The position requires an individual with strong mechanical aptitude and relentless attention to detail and quality output considering strict HSE/HFE requirements (Operability, Accessibility, Maintainability etc.).
Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Order-specific adaptation of pump designs, components, and systems/packages, based on existing standard systems.
- Order handling of engineered to order (ETO) orders for process systems / packages including performing risk analysis, design reviews, conformity assessment and coordination and training of GTEC support for engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, wiring diagrams, Isometric pipe drawings, BOM’s etc.
- Design tanks and pressure vessels utilizing calculations to ensure conformance with engineering specifications and applicable codes.
- Prepare design layouts of structural bases and steelwork in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Initiation and support of customer-specific calculations in steel construction and piping planning in collaboration with internal or external engineering service providers.
- Ensure conformity with national and international directives and standards, e.g., the Machinery Directive, Explosion Protection, the Pressure Equipment Directive, and/or equivalent requirements, such as customer specifications.
- Application of design engineering principles regarding functional and production-oriented design considering HFE.
- Perform and evaluate necessary calculations for optimal design.
- Selection and specification of system / package components (valves, instruments, pipes, etc.) for procurement.
- Creation of required documents for product portfolio including accessories, such as parts lists, drawings, SAP master data, instructions, and manufacturing documents.
- Provision of inquiry documents for the supply chain and technical review of incoming supplier offers.
- Technical support for component qualifications and external solutions from suppliers, during production and for quality assurance.
- Documentation creation and organization of all technical information, such as operating and assembly instructions, including initiation of required translations, with significant involvement of Commercial Operations team.
- Review of P&ID (Pump & Instrumentation Diagram) flow diagrams
Preferred Experience / Skills:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
- 1-3 years of professional experience (preferably in mechanical field) is required.
- Experience in engineering, design, and ERP software (SAP R3, SolidWorks, Windchill (Nexus), Ansys Workbench, MS Office)
- Solid understanding of pump applications and types; in depth knowledge of hydraulic fundamentals and how these relate to pumps and pumps systems.
- Experience with structural steel design and fabrication for supporting rotating equipment and piping systems.
- Experience integrating instrumentation into piping designs including control valves, flow meters and transmitters (pressure, temperature and level).
- Knowledge of internal and international practices & standards.
- Flexible concerning working hours & willing to travel for planned visits or to overcome unexpected issues (up to 15%) if any.
- Ability to work with geographically dispersed teams with culturally diverse membership.
- Ability to work without supervision and accomplish assignments of high quality and on time.
- Strong oral and written English communication skills, German is a plus.
