Job Description

The Staff Engineer is a senior individual contributor who drives scalability and architectural consistency across multiple engineering teams. Being a bridge between Engineering Managers, Architects, and domain teams, you will ensure agreement between priorities and technical execution. Staff Engineers are hands-on technical leaders who influence through expertise rather than authority. You will excel when priorities shift and be able to balance near-term delivery with long-term architectural direction. You will report to Manager of Software Engineering. For the right candidate, this role can be worked remotely from any location in Canada.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Engineering Managers and Architects to shape and refine technical roadmaps aligned with team goals.
  • Ensure architectural consistency and scalability across domains.
  • Represent engineering in discussions, balancing technical trade-offs with product needs.
  • Collaborate across teams to resolve complex technical bottlenecks.
  • Lead or advise on design reviews, architectural discussions, and implementation planning.
  • Support projects that span multiple teams or services.
  • Participate in incident management and root cause analysis, driving long-term preventative solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and developer efficiency.
  • Promote best practices in observability, CI/CD, testing, and deployment.
  • Reassess and adapt technical plans to evolving product or our needs.
  • Balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural health.
  • Mentor engineers, encouraging a culture of learning and new ideas.
  • Ensure systems are designed for reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Address technical debt and modernization opportunities.
  • Partner with QA and DevSecOps to uphold performance, security, and compliance standards.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Years of Relevant Work Experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the Canada is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with 2+ years in senior or Staff-level technical leadership.
  • Experience designing and delivering complex, scalable, cloud-native systems (AWS preferred).
  • Experience with distributed systems, micro-services, and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience driving modernization, observability, and automation projects.

For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is $118,160 - $177,240 CAD Annual with an annual target bonus of 5 % of base salary. Our benefits for the US can be found here. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, knowledge, education, and experience.
