Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Staff Propulsion Engineer to join our team at our Palm Beach Gardens, Florida location to support the Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) business unit. This position can also be worked at our Elkton, Maryland or Ronkonkoma, New York locations.
The Northrop Grumman PS&C business unit is based in Elkton, Maryland and began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The Palm Beach Gardens location is the Air-breathing propulsion center of excellence specializing in the design, analysis and system integration of ramjets, scramjets and other advanced air-breathing propulsion systems.

Job Summary
Perform mechanical design of one or more extremely complex structural components and functional systems of company products. Generally, work from statement of work from the customer and generates derived requirements for other engineers. Analyze requirements for materials, structural components, or functional systems. Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs and requirements of other portions of the product. Oversee and guide work performed by junior engineers. Develop original ideas and elaborate on preliminary design concepts. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior. Evaluate the designs of lower-level engineers and provide guidance.
Job Responsibilities
· Provide technical direction, with supporting input from relevant subject matter experts
· Apply theoretical knowledge, engineering techniques, and test data to the solution of more complex components, structures, and sub-assemblies. Solutions are highly innovative and ingenious.
· Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated
· Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior.
· Establish requirements for materials, structural components, and functional systems
· Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution
· Review designs of lower-level engineers, provide guidance of design activities
· Make recommendations for improving own work and/or group’s work
· Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects. Act as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research and applications.
· Ensure that the product line is adhering to contractual and technical data package requirements
· Ensure communications with the internal and external teams are taking place across the entire programmatic portfolio
· Lead the engineering effort to accomplish major milestones, such as: design reviews, technical interchange meetings, test design reviews and test readiness reviews
· Support earned value performance tracking of various programs in the portfolio
Basic Qualifications
· Requires Bachelors in STEM plus at least 12 years of design experience or Master’s Degree in STEM plus at least 10 years of design experience or a PhD in STEM plus at least 8 years of design experience.
· Prior experience guiding and mentoring lower-level engineers
· Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
· Proficiency with Siemens NX
· Ability and willingness to travel 10-25%
Preferred Qualifications
· Degree in strongly Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
· Experience with mechanical design of propulsion components or fluid systems
· Current active Security Clearance
· Proficiency with Siemens Teamcenter United Architecture
· Ability to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Primary Level Salary Range: $161,000.00 - $241,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
