Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Staff Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer to join our team in Sunnyvale, CA.

The Staff Non-Destructive Testing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining unique nondestructive inspection techniques, methods, and procedures. Works with design, project, and Quality Engineers through the inspection process to select and implement the best NDT method to ensure product quality and conformance.

What you'll get to do:

  • Review Engineering designs and drawings and provide correct NDT method description for the critical defect size and type of material being inspected. 

  • Prepare inspection documentation to identify test parameters and requirements.

  • Perform technical audits of NDT personnel in the field.

  • Manage department’s NDT certification compliance.

  • Hold one or more NDT Level III certifications.

  • Participates in R&D programs to improve system capabilities and bring new ideas & technology into projects and pursuits.

  • Develop and produce formal customer reports containing recommendations, computer generated graphics, plots, tables, summaries and comparisons. Maintain & archive electronic and hard copy inspection data and reports.

The ideal candidate must have demonstrated ability to cross train others in NDT methods.

Basic Qualifications for the Staff Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of NDT experience; Master’s degree with 10 years of NDT experience; PhD with 8 years NDT experience; Associates Degree with 14 years of NDT experience; OR 16 years of NDT experience in lieu of degree.  

  • 2 years of experience utilizing Level 3 certification in: Ultrasonic (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Radiography (RT), Visual (VT), and/or Dye Penetrant (PT). Records of certification and experience are required.

  • US Citizenship Required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience with computer aided design (CAD) software.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience performing at a high level with minimal supervision and direction, can multi-task and is a self-starter.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts and Six Sigma tools. 

  • Background in NDT of marine based products. 

  • Experience investigating, performing root cause analysis, and recommending corrective measures.

  • Active Secret clearance.

  • Experience with adopting new NDT technologies to product inspection.

Primary Level Salary Range: $161,000.00 - $241,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
