Brief info about Vinted

Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:

Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.

Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.

Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.

Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Our backers include Accel, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sprints, and TPG.

Information about the position

As a Staff Engineer for Compute & Cloud, you will be responsible for setting and guiding the technical strategy of Vinted's core container orchestration platforms and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

The Foundations domain is the cornerstone of Vinted’s infrastructure, providing the essential resources that enable our engineering teams to scale and deliver value to millions of users globally. In this role, you will report to the Director of Engineering for Foundations and work closely with the engineering managers and teams dedicated to our Compute and Cloud pillars. You will drive the architecture for our massive-scale, multi-cluster Kubernetes environment (running across approximately 3,000 physical servers) and define our standardized public cloud integrations across AWS and GCP. You will ensure that Vinted’s workload platform is highly available, resource-efficient, securely isolated, and seamlessly integrated across both on-premise data centers and public cloud providers.

In this position, you’ll

  • Own the long-term technical vision and architectural roadmap for Vinted's compute platforms, container orchestration, and public cloud footprint.
  • Set the standards for building, scaling, and managing our vast Kubernetes and Istio fleets, ensuring a stable, high-performance, and resilient runtime environment for thousands of microservices.
  • Architect our hybrid cloud strategy, defining clear paved paths and governance for how Vinted utilizes public cloud services (AWS, GCP) alongside our bare-metal data centers.
  • Lead improvements in platform efficiency, multi-tenant cluster isolation, and infrastructure-as-code practices, acting as a force multiplier for the Compute and Cloud engineering teams.
  • Collaborate deeply with domain teams, Staff Engineers, and other platform leaders to unblock the delivery of technical initiatives and eliminate compute bottlenecks.
  • Solve hard distributed systems problems, including dynamic workload scaling, stateful workload orchestration, and global cluster federation.
  • Represent the Foundations technological area within the Staff/Principal Engineer layer, providing architectural guidance for domains that consume our compute and cloud platforms.

About you

  • Extensive prior experience as an architect, principal, or staff engineer, having delivered cross-team technical infrastructure initiatives in organizations operating at a massive scale.
  • Deep, hands-on understanding of scaling container orchestration platforms, specifically Kubernetes, in highly complex, multi-cluster environments.
  • Strong expertise in public cloud architecture (AWS and/or GCP), cloud-native ecosystems, and hybrid cloud integration strategies.
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), platform automation, and modern observability stacks.
  • Demonstrable ability to design resilient compute platforms that handle node failures, cluster upgrades, and capacity constraints seamlessly.
  • Ability to delegate refinement and implementation of technical initiatives to engineers in your organization, while providing clear architectural boundaries and mentorship.
  • Sharp communication skills and an ability to discuss complex distributed systems topics in detail, building alignment and consensus across different engineering domains.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
