Job Description: Staff Data Engineer

Location: New York, Hybrid

Position Overview:
CVS Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and a proven track record of working with large data systems while ensuring compliance with PHI and PII regulations. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders in the health insurance domain, particularly in value-based contracting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures using GCP services, including Cloud Composer, BigQuery, and Vertex AI.
  • Implement and optimize data processing workflows to handle very large datasets while ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Collaborate with business partners to understand data needs and translate them into technical requirements, particularly in the context of value-based contracting.
  • Utilize Python for data manipulation, analysis, and automation of data workflows.
  • Stay current with advancements in Generative AI (GenAI) and agents, integrating these technologies into data solutions as appropriate.
  • Ensure adherence to DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated testing.
  • Implement security best practices to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor and guide junior data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with a focus on cloud technologies.
  • Strong competency in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and hands-on experience with Cloud Composer, BigQuery, and Vertex AI.
  • Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks.
  • Experience working with large data systems, with a solid understanding of PHI and PII considerations.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD, version control, and automated testing.
  • Knowledge of security best practices in data engineering and cloud environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with business partners and technical teams.
  • Experience in the health insurance domain, particularly in value-based contracting, is highly desirable.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$142,140.00 - $284,280.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
