About Altruist

Altruist is transforming the multi-trillion dollar wealth management industry by building an AI platform for wealth professionals. We partner with financial advisors nationwide, empowering them to grow, optimize time and resources, and deliver superior outcomes for their clients.

We're looking for exceptional talent to help us achieve our mission of making financial advice better, more affordable, and accessible to all. If you're passionate about challenging the status quo and want to do the most important work of your life, we'd love to meet you!

But first, our values

Kindness - Kindness doesn’t just equal niceness. We listen to understand. We embrace, and encourage healthy debate and diverse perspectives. We approach conflict openly, honestly, and respectfully.

Brilliance - Humility is the skill we’re most proud of and possessing a growth mindset is always top of mind. We take ownership in everything we touch; regularly using our unique superpowers to reach a common goal as a team. We succeed and fail as one.

Grit - When challenges arise, we stay laser focused on achieving our mission and finding a way forward, even when it’s hard. We are nimble and maintain a sense of urgency, swiftly adapting to change and overcoming obstacles.

The opportunity

Altruist is building the modern infrastructure for independent financial advisors. At the center of that future is Hazel — the AI platform for financial advisors that integrates across their tech stack and transforms data into actionable outcomes. Hazel represents the most ambitious expression of our brand: intelligent, calm, precise, and deeply human. Design plays a critical role in defining what that future looks and feels like.

We’re hiring a Staff Brand Designer to lead the visual evolution of Hazel across its entire ecosystem. This is not a support role. It’s a leadership role within brand responsible for shaping how our AI product shows up across product surfaces, launches, campaigns, motion, storytelling, and emerging experiences. The ideal candidate thinks quickly, designs thoughtfully, and pushes work beyond the obvious. They bring impeccable taste, a sharp point of view, and a deep understanding of contemporary design — while also knowing when restraint is the most powerful move.

This designer will also partner closely with Product Design to  influence the user experience of Hazel, ensuring brand and product feel unified and intentional. They will also collaborate with motion designers, illustrators, and cross-functional teams to bring new ideas to life across the Hazel surfaces. This role operates as a thought partner to Creative Leadership on new Hazel initiatives and long-term brand direction.

This role is hybrid, with three in-office days per week at our San Francisco FiDi location.

What you'll do

  • Lead the visual design and ongoing evolution of the Hazel brand
  • Define and expand Hazel’s design language across product marketing, launches, web, campaigns, and in-product brand moments
  • Partner closely with Product Design to influence UX direction and ensure cohesive brand expression
  • Collaborate with motion designers and illustrators to create immersive, forward-looking experiences
  • Translate complex AI capabilities into clear, elegant visual storytelling
  • Explore and responsibly integrate emerging tools and technologies into the creative workflow
  • Contribute to early-stage concepting for new Hazel initiatives and product expansions
  • Uphold and elevate craft standards across every touchpoint

What you bring

  • 6–8+ years of brand design experience, ideally including product-adjacent work
  • A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional craft, strong systems thinking, and modern sensibility
  • Experience shaping or evolving a product-focused brand
  • Fluency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite; bonus points for motion literacy
  • Strong understanding of current visual trends, digital culture, and AI-driven creative tools
  • Ability to think conceptually and execute with precision
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
  • Strong collaboration skills and the confidence to influence cross-functional partners

This role is a fit if...

  • You move fast without sacrificing craft
  • You care deeply about typography, hierarchy, interaction, and nuance
  • You experiment intelligently and push ideas forward
  • You can zoom out to system-level thinking and zoom in to pixel-level detail
  • You see AI as a design frontier, not just a feature

What success looks like

  • Hazel has a distinctive, forward-looking visual identity that feels cohesive across product and brand
  • Creative output feels modern, intelligent, and unmistakably premium
  • Product and brand teams operate as a unified design force
  • The Hazel ecosystem becomes a benchmark for AI product storytelling in fintech
