Job Summary: This is a temporary promotion, not to exceed four years, job opportunity which is located in Chairman Carr's office, within the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) located in Washington, DC. Relocation expenses will not be paid. THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT MAY BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL POSITIONS WITHIN 90 DAYS.

Major Duties:

  • Perform a wide variety of administrative and technical services for the Chairman's Office, including being responsible for the performance of administrative support functions and associated activity coordination tasks for the Chairman or his advisory staff. Exercise control over the Chairman or his advisory staff's daily calendar; establish priorities; schedule meetings, appointments, and/or conferences; compose non-technical correspondence; and prepare travel arrangements without prior approval based on personal knowledge of the Commissioner or his advisory staff's preferences, priorities, and commitments. Responsible for managing assigned time and attendance. Evaluate procedures, determining when changes are necessary, and implementing such changes; managing and improving administrative workflow and office procedures for the Office of the Chairman; and providing training and guidance to lower-level support staff on office work processes and procedures. Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison for congressional correspondence for the Office of the Chairman; prepare responses to letters addressed to the Chairman or his advisory staff; and prepare a variety of material in final form from rough drafts, notes, or oral instructions. Assemble and organize agenda item materials received from other Bureaus and Offices through the Commission Secretary prior to the monthly Commission meetings.

GS-11 Specialized Experience: In order to be deemed as qualified applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 in the Federal service. For this position, specialized experience includes the following: Experience serving in a lead role such as Office Manager, Confidential/Executive Assistant, Secretary or Administrative Assistant in which you were responsible for the administrative and clerical responsibilities of the office performance and/or overseeing a wide range of assignments including: 1) receiving visitors and answering telephone calls from a diverse group of individuals (e.g., congressional staff, representatives of international organizations and/or foreign governments, other high-ranking government and industry officials); 2) researching and compiling information to respond to inquiries either orally or in writing on a wide range of topics from a wide variety of individuals within and outside the organization; 3) maintaining appointment schedules, and arranging conferences, events, and meetings for a high level official (e.g., top agency official, executive, CEO) and their staff;and 4) developing and maintaining filing systems and automated tracking systems, and 5) preparing travel documents for domestic and international travel. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
