Position Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a pivotal role in maintaining financial integrity and supporting the overall financial health of the organization. This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities related to accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. This role is also responsible for maintaining the general ledger.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger and subledger accounts in accordance with GAAP compliance.
  • Prepares regulatory report FR2900.
  • Prepares and records journal entries.
  • Meets processing and reporting deadlines.
  • Assist with month-end close processes, including journal entries related to sub-servicing, loan participations, investments, loan loss provisions, and accruals.
  • Participates in special projects and initiatives.
  • Maintains fixed assets, ensuring accurate recording, tracking and reporting.
  • Handles confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Responds to information requests and accounting procedure.
  • Assists with audit and exam requests when necessary.
  • Participates in ongoing educational opportunities to learn about industry trends and developments, current financial legislation, and company policies and procedures.
  • Is familiar with departmental duties and responsibilities and provides back up when needed.
  • Assists the Controller and CFO as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions, and general operating policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications, and adding devices.
  • Skilled in investigative and analytical skills, including documenting findings to support account reviews
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to think critically and make sound decisions based on financial analysis and data interpretation.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with exceptional member service skills.
  • Ability to efficiently understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform routine duties without close supervision and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other team members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The team member does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Complexity & Scope of Work

  • The team member follows Wellby’s policies and procedures, Team member Handbook, and federal and state laws and regulations in accomplishing assignments
  • The team member performs a variety of related tasks, which are mostly routine but are sensitive in nature.
  • Non-routine situations or conflicts are usually referred to the supervisor for resolution.
  • Instructions to the team member may be general or specific in nature.
  • Courses of action are determined by established procedures and/or their leader.
  • The team member’s work is reviewed periodically for accuracy, completion, and compliance with the policies and procedures.
  • Tasks may occasionally have to be coordinated, integrated, and/or prioritized.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • To perform this job successfully, the team member is frequently required to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Daily movements include sitting, standing, reaching, and grasping, operating computers and other office equipment, moving about the office, and attending possible onsite and offsite meetings. The team member must be able to exchange information, in person, in writing, and via telephone. Some degree of stress results from contact with management and other team members.
  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across the office and load them onto shelves for various needs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Work involves the typical risks and discomforts associated with an office environment but is usually in an area that is adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum one (1) to two (2) years of relevant accounting experience required. One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
  • Experience with general financial accounting and cost accounting preferred.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles preferred.
  • Highly proficient with accounting software preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
