Role: Sr. Test Automation Engineer

Join our dynamic ENT R&D team where cutting-edge technology meets rigorous validation. We are seeking an experienced Automation Test Engineer to contribute to system and software testing for a cutting-edge Electrosurgical device. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Python programming, experience in automated unit and integration testing, and a solid background in system and software verification using automation, particularly for firmware in FreeRTOS and bare-metal environments. Proficiency with automation tools (e.g., VectorCast, Unity, CMock, or similar) and static code analysis tools (e.g., SonarQube, Coverity) are essential to ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of medical device software. This role involves technical leadership within project teams and collaboration in a regulated, Agile/DevOps environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Test Execution and Verification
    • Assist in designing a test automation strategy for verifying Electrosurgical device software and system functionality in FreeRTOS and bare-metal environments.
    • Support the development of test cases and scripts aligned with standards (e.g., IEC 62304).
  • Automation Framework Development
    • Contributes to the maintenance of automation frameworks using Python for system, software, and integration testing. Proficiency with automation tools (e.g., VectorCast, Unity, CMock, or similar) and static code analysis tools (e.g., SonarQube, Coverity) are essential to ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of medical device software.
    • Use automation tools to support testing of C/C++-based firmware.
  • Test Execution and Verification
    • Execute automated tests to verify software functionality and system performance in FreeRTOS and bare-metal systems.
    • Support system and software verification to validate basic functional requirements.
    • Assist with regression testing using automation tools.

  • Team Collaboration and Mentorship
    • Internal relationships include collaboration with firmware developers, hardware engineers, QA teams, and cross-functional stakeholders. External relationships may involve regulatory bodies for compliance. Product focus is on Electrosurgical devices, with strict regulatory requirements (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 13485).
    • Seek guidance from senior engineers as needed.

  • DevOps and CI/CD Integration
    • Support the integration of automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins.
    • Help configure test environments for consistent execution.
  • Tool Management and Reporting
    • Assist in configuring automation tools for test case execution.
    • Contribute to test reports with execution results for team review.

What will you need to be successful?

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Certification: Certifications like ISTQB Foundation Level or equivalent certification.
  • Experience: 4+ years in test automation, with experience in system and software testing (verification) for medical devices.  
  • Experience in unit and integration testing for embedded systems, particularly in FreeRTOS or bare-metal environments.
  • Hands-on experience with system verification using automation tools.
  • Strong Python programming; familiarity with PyTest or similar for testing.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git) and test management tools (e.g., JIRA).
  • Proficiency with FreeRTOS and bare-metal environments for firmware testing.
  • Understanding of IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Proficiency with automation tools (e.g., VectorCast, Unity, CMock) and static code analysis tools (e.g., SonarQube, Coverity).
  • Test Automation Coverage: Achieve 100% coverage functional tests.
  • Defect Detection Rate: Identify defects early in the development cycle.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work in a team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Preferred: Experience with Electrosurgical or RF-based technologies; familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
  • Strong communication skills. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
