Work Arrangement: This is a fully remote position requiring frequent travel within Edmonton and its surrounding areas. Travel will also be required within Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Mileage reimbursement applies.
Job Summary:
The Sr. Specialist coordinates and delivers services related to a McKesson Specialty Health patient support program. The role involves interaction with patients, families, physicians, nurses, other HCPs, the client, and McKesson’s multidisciplinary team through web-based, phone, and in-person communication. The Sr. Specialist must follow all corporate, divisional, departmental, and program-specific SOPs.
Section A - Specific Responsibilities:
Program Coordination & Case Management
Perform patient and HCP registration according to program protocols.
Review and validate information to initiate services accurately.
Schedule next steps based on program protocols to ensure continuity of care.
Enter data collected at all points of contact.
Conduct reimbursement investigations with public/private payers, coordinate Special Authorization submissions, and manage escalations per program guidelines.
Liaise with physicians’ offices, clinics, infusion service providers, the Specialty Pharmacy team, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated service delivery.
Complete financial eligibility assessments based on program criteria.
Manage caseload within assigned territory.
Patient & Family/Caregiver Support
Serve as initial contact for clinics requesting patient onboarding.
Assess readiness for learning and schedule pump training accordingly.
Provide disease‑specific education to patients and families.
Train patients, families, and HCPs on infusion pumps.
Facilitate delivery of medication and infusion supplies.
Communicate learning barriers to clinics.
Troubleshoot pump issues and coordinate replacement when required.
Provide support for side‑effect management.
Notify clinics of relevant patient communications as required by the program.
Conduct follow‑up calls/visits based on patient/family competency and needs.
Respond to ad hoc patient, family, or clinic inquiries using program guidelines.
Provide additional support for patients with physical challenges or limited support networks, which may require extra travel.
Identify and report AE/SAE/PCs according to program instructions.
Participate in the rotation for 24/7/365 on‑call support.
Deliver pump training to clinic or ward nursing staff upon request.
Document all interactions in the McKesson database.
Communicate key patient issues to colleagues when unavailable.
Maintain current knowledge of McKesson SOPs and program practices.
Section B – General Responsibilities:
Support continuous improvement activities (process, quality, training).
Maintain accuracy of program documentation.
Participate in subject‑matter meetings as required.
Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
Participate in after‑hours emergency call rotation based on program guidelines.
Section C – Position Requirements:
Education & Experience
Licensed RN with minimum 5 years of nursing experience.
Preferred experience: ICU, Emergency, Cardiology, or Respirology.
Valid provincial driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
Flexibility to travel (approx. 50%).
Skills & Competencies
Strong teaching skills adaptable to patient/family needs.
Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Bilingualism in French is an asset.
Strong listening, questioning, and problem‑solving skills.
Knowledge of public and private reimbursement processes.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Strong computer skills.
Ability to work flexible hours and travel on short notice.
